I just think this game looks good. I really thought about it lately, but I came to a conclusion : I can't Forces myself to hate this game (get it :v I'm not a fanboy, I know this game as a lot of flaw : Classic Sonic being shoehorned in, the Gameplay looking more automated than ever, the abundance of 2d sections, the Wisps again (bonus point if the plot don't explain why they're here) and Izuka having clearly no idea what the fuck he's doing anymore. So I should hate it, right ? But every time I look at some gameplay for this game, my only thought is : "Damn, this looks fun, I can't wait to play it." That's how things are, I guess. I have no reason for wanting this game to fail. I do think they should get rid of a lot of things in the future 3D games, though. No more 2D, and less automation, please. Yeah, but Castlevania is a rather slow game. What remided me of X here is the fast paced gameplay. As I said, obviously Sonic is faster, but X can be a really fast game if you know how to use the dash. Also elemental weapon with a different effect. Flamethrower, Electric whip, Laser gun... What I wanted to say is that the two series had some similarities. But it's true that they don't play exactly the same.
A new trailer, all in Japanese but a little bit more shown of Modern Green Hill and a few extra cutscene snippets (that can be considered a little spoiler-y). Also a fuller version of Fist Bump in the background and Spoiler a giant Metal Sonic???
Modern Green Hill remind me of Arid Sands for some reasons. EDIT : Oh my god, the full version of Fist Bump. IneeditIneeditIneedit EDIT : Tag Team Sunset Heights confirmed ? What the fuck Sega of Japan, so much info. Can somebody do an hour long analysis video on this trailer, please ?
Wasn't too fussed with the first part of the Forces comic but I really enjoyed the second. Look forward to part 3. That Japanese trailer was pretty good, I liked the snippets of cutscenes and quick look at levels we haven't really seen yet (particularly modern Green Hill - the bit where Sonic goes on to the wooden pathways into the banked turn/spiral looked pretty cool) but I think it also made me realise how much I really, really dislike the Avatar. The first chunk of the trailer actually looked appealing but as soon as the avatar appeared I just lost any excitement I had. They look fine enough in cutscenes it's just their gameplay looks atrocious.
The dialogue's nothing interesting but it is neat to see some kind of different Phantom Ruby being developed and being part of Infinite.
Something I can give props to in the trailer is the amount of movement and emotion in the cutscenes. Especially after seeing that for the past 10 years, cutscenes have pretty much been just standing and talking with normally unshifting expressions. I like that, while the gameplay still isn't great, I'd be willing to believe watching the cutscenes only on Youtube or something would be at least fairly entertaining if the plot intrests you
I'm at a point where the storyline and dialogue actually seems more appealing to me than the gameplay, which isn't the norm for me and Sonic games. (And most games for that matter.) I have mixed feelings about this, because I always value gameplay quality over narrative quality, yet the story in Sonic Forces is intriguing me significantly more. Hm.. Also the new level design snippets in that trailer appears to be more of the same speed-booster-generic-corridor-and-blocky-terrain style nonsense, sadly.
Well, I've read the comic and I don't like the uber-mcguffin thing with the phantom ruby, but at least is some sort of official confirmation of Eggman's new toy being able to mess with time in some way. This just makes me want to watch a playthrough with all cutscenes, not buy the game at all.
I will likely stick my vote in the "Watch all the cutscenes on Youtube in one go" box and say that this could have been a more enjoyable movie / CGI Short than whatever gameplay they're trying to throw down our throat. But I fear that with mid-level cutscenes, this isn't gonna be so smoothly looking.
Hol up, what if Modern Eggman actually created the Phantom Ruby, and the events of Forces end up sending it to the distant past/classic dimension where it lays dormant in Angel Island's ground only to be dug up in Sonic Mania and found by Classic Eggman? Okay, I may have been playing Tides of Time but I think this sort of thing would be cool as shit
Sega says that classic Sonic from forces is from a different a dimension and not from the past. This means that the Mania and classic timelines are separate, but some events are obviously shared.
If that were true, I hope we'll see the Hard-Boiled Heavies in there. I bet they would look great in 3D.
Spoiler inb4 Infinite is the avatar from a bad future //forums.sonicretro.org/public/style_emoticons/default/emot-ssh.gif
I like how little gameplay Modern Sonic got. And what was there was just a big racetrack. But the boost effect is still the most awful thing I've seen. Christ. At least the cutscenes weren't as embarrassingly bad.
Have to admit the game's looking pretty good and much better in that new trailer. It might be a fun time when it's released in a few weeks. Still going to wait for reviews but the game's looking better now. Might not be the complete catastrophe we're all fearing. Possibly a solid 7/10 if not better.
So are Cream and Big the only supporting cast that haven't shown up in anything yet? I understand Big not being in the game, odd that Cream hasn't shown up though.
