EDIT: I honestly can't tell whether that song is a thinly-veiled song about sex or a thinly-veiled song about how they got Sonic right this time. ---- I didn't mind the cartoony sound effects, but I started to notice that the cutscenes had a certain lack of music variety between them after a while. Like, there are fewer tracks between the cutscenes, relatively speaking, than between the same number of Unleashed scenes. Or at least, it felt that way. It might be that they amped up the "Saturday Morning Cartoon" levels a bit too much, but even so, it's a lot closer to what it should ideally be on this side of that line than it was before, even, in my opinion, compared to Unleashed. If they just dial that element down a little and risk a bit more plot depth, they'd probably have it down just right. Actually, a good way to do that—once they get to the point where they're re-introducing multiple characters in the core gameplay style, a la S3&K, is to bring back the intersecting-stories formula from the Adventure games. Combining that with the kind of storytelling method they have going on in Colors would, hypothetically, allow for just as much levity but more story depth, since any given character's story is allowed to focus on a smaller part of the whole, so that at no one time does too much clutter the cutscenes up at once.

Dammit I NEED to get this game bad. Tell me does Tails actually have a personality in this one ie. does he actually act like a child at times? As for Sonic being egotistical I prefer him being that way, Sonic needs some distinct personality flaws and pride is one that is in line with most other incarnations of the character.
What is this I don't even But the fact that YOU are the one who are in the 2nd place worldwide of it is what frightens me more than anything else. Also, everytime I hear "Reach For The Stars" ever again, I'll associate it to rainbow-colored unicorns, running, boosting and jumping off of cliffs. Thank you.
Sonic is a hyperactive Knucklehead, and Tails is ultimately the straight man to all of is antics. It actually works really well, and yeah, Tails does have a few childish moments in there.
In fact, Tails even have enough personality to be embarassed by Sonic's stupid actions in this game. So yeah, it works pretty well.
And Sonic in turn is embarrassed by Tails lack of common sense. Its a strange balance of each having different types of intelligence.

One of my nearby Gamestops is doing a midnight release for Assassin's Creed, and they said it would be okay for me to pick up Sonic Colors tonight if they have it in the back. Going to call back in a bit to see if they do. Normally the local Walmarts are pretty reliable when it comes to picking up games on the midnight of the street date, but they all seem to be in total HURRR mode right now (ah don't have da ting so I cant chek PLEASE HOLD FOREVER LOLZ).
I got a text tonight from Gamestop saying my copy would be waiting for me tomorrow morning, rather than sometime Wednesday afternoon - quite the pleasant surprise. Too bad I'm working until around 2...oh well. I have the following two days off, so I'll have more than enough time to play through Colors. Come on...come on...only 18 or so more hours...
You know, I just realized what's been bugging me so much about the cutscenes in this game. Sonic's brow doesn't move- it's completely static. Makes for some kind of awkward looking scenes, especially compared to Unleashed.

Uh... It moves like fucking crazy in Colours. It moves more often than it does in Unleashed even. The cutscene above he even moves it around like 50 times.
Fine, it does move a bit. But more than Unleashed? Fuck no... Unleashed's expressions were definitely more pronounced in this regard. Even SA2's were.
It's very subtle, they use his eyelids for expression more than his eyebrows, I can see how someone would miss it. They do move ever so slightly, but it's far removed from Sonic Adventure's eyebrow spazzes. That's not a bad thing.
