Oh you're making a game engine? that's awesome. I think scripting would be awesome, something like GML or Hatch[the thing that Galactic uses], i don't really like visual programming in any capacity, but that's just me personally.
Thank you!! Yes, I am developing an engine from scratch. My idea is that with it you can program and publish a Sonic game (from the classic era) from scratch, that is, you can customize absolutely everything. The project is quite ambitious but it is ongoing. That's why I was asking about visual programming.
so i've been cracking open this sonic fangame thing i last worked on in 2019. as warmup I adapted the UI design to better fit a shadow theme since that's what I'm going for now, and I gotta say I think I kinda popped off with it the game itself is just me hacking on someone else's framework ("bumper engine") but i'd been in the process of completely reimplementing its character controller and action system and kinda left the job half done. that's gonna be hard to pick up from where i left off on, hence the warming up. I know it's kinda silly to polish this sort of thing before you have any sort of a functioning game, and in changing the game's identity there's no longer any symbolic meaning to the triangle motif that it has going on, but damn I think it looks cool heheh and yes i know how terrible the terrible color-shifted placeholder sonic looks. if anyone good at editing models and animations wants to help me put shadow in a dress in the unity engine please contact me on discord @ gamedevkirlia (real)
After seeing some custom versions of Sonic XG, I've decided to check Stealth's Sonic: Project Mettrix E01 demos and after seeing some unfinished/unused levels and other content, I've finished Shining Island Act 3 object layout (Work In Progress, I need to erase few unused/unwanted objects and add more tiles to FG at the beginning of the level). More things to come...
It's a shame Project Mettrix wasn't finished in 2004 (or whenever) - it's culturally significant, but god does it look old.
the other gifs i made previously expired. so im trying something slightly different. (posted onto discord and posted the link here. seeing if it will last longer)
Reminds me of Pandemonium for the PS1, and I think it's a neat idea, especially if you include Z axis twists the 2D path to open the world up a bit.
Oh my god. You're making the Sonic game that I always wanted Rivals to be. I've always loved those twisty-turny 2.5D-type platformers. I REALLY like you've got so far!
Can't be understating just how good that looks, it is fantastic. Looks like an official game from a parallel universe designed around the late 90s. I was immediately reminded of Klonoa, though this looks better!
Well the Discord gifs didn't last forever. I suggest you to upload files that is not on Discord instead.
just put them on imgur or whatever, it's literally free discord is not a file host, it has never been a file host, and pretending that it is is what got us to the current stupid situation where people throw links to it around as though theyre gonna last forever...and then they expire, in like 36 hours or whatever. cmon now </rant>
If you really want to be a archival link god, throw the original discord file on archive.is/archive.org and then just go to the archived link and snatch the new image file off from both archive sites Imgur is a little too poopgobbler code-y for me so that's what I've been doing
