I think you should move its eyes a little bit down, or you could remove these two grey thingies behind its eyes to make enough room.

 

Phosphorus, amongst other elements, can burn underwater, for one.
Also it's not like everything have to make sense. How can a hedgehog handle a flamethrower at all? How can a hedgehog walk underwater? How...

 

Might I suggest placing the laser beam on his head, and making it thicker? I've had a go, but it's not so good.

There are times when I've asked myself that same question whenever Mario shoots fireballs underwater in the Super Mario games.

The major problem here is that you're basically copy pasting the exact same leg movements except change which one goes in front and which one goes in back and call it "animation". It's a terrible way to do it, especially if you only have four frames to work with.

What you say is a four frame animation ends up looking like a 2 frame animation. Choppy, ugly, incredibly stiff, and most of all boring.

Considering that this will probably be used only at high speeds and the animation will play at high speeds, it's time to play some little tricks.

Right now, we only have four frames to work with. No more, no less. And with those four frames we want to make a smooth running animation. Normally this would be a pain in the ass, but the advantage we have here is that this animation will probably be playing at a high frame rate.



Rather than adding more frames to get a smoother animation looking animation, I merely played with the positing of both legs in all the frames to get them to act as "inbetween" frames for me. It may not be noticeable in the above frames shown, but overlayed together, you get this.



With those four frames and adjusting the positioning of each leg in every frame I end up getting quite a bit of leg sweep there. A rather cheap trick, but with only four frames to work with, it'll work and it's almost entirely unnoticeable to your player if you manage to color it in properly. The legs will be moving too quickly for the player to distinguish which leg is the left or right one.

Is it just me or does his arm look a little stiff?

 

it's much better than my final Sonic Running Sprites.

I've changed a couple of thing here and there, but that's it.

I think that one's supposed to have a wheel of feet. If it's not supposed to, you need to rework it.

 

Yes, it is supposed to have the wheel feet. That was how it was in the first showing, that's how it is now.
