Yeah, even if the VGChartz numbers are highly inaccurate (I said they were unofficial,) I've seen enough copies not flying off the shelves locally at retailers this week to know the numbers are at least close.

How does that represent the universal sales of the game?

Just because it hasn't sold a lot of copies locally doesn't mean it hasn't sold well in other countries or cities.

So unfair though, this is actually a really fun game. It may have a lot of similarities with Mario Kart but it executes most of it quite well. Fuck it beats Mario Kart Wii in terms of original levels and music and character roster. Seriously, Sega may have pulled some characters out of the blue, but I'd rather see all these different franchises represented in a game than Mario Kart's scrapping for characters. Seriously? Funky Kong? Dry Bowser? Baby Daisy? That last one's not even a character.

Uk steam should have had the game on sale last friday but it was constantly delayed until earlier today, so that's more pc day 1 sales down the bin due to steam.

I been playing the 360 version this afternoon and I like it, just a shame there is no super stars moves online, part of the game's charm is having each player using a unique fight-back move.

  5. We're talking about Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing, the game that has 3 Seaside Hills, 3 Casino Parks, 3 Final Fortresses... originality in levels, no. The music thing is ok though, but still the levels recycle the playlist. And the characters... I suppose they're good. But seriously, who on earth in this day and age is going to care if the Bonanza Bros. are in? Don't get me wrong, they look great, but they're only going to appeal to older fans. Of course this is coming from a guy begging for Ristar and Sonic R characters as DLC.

I totally agree with your first couple of sentences though. But I strongly believe that given time, this'll pick up. Just show your friends, and they'll like it. Saying that it's just like Mario Kart is silly, because the connection is similar to that of any pair of first person shooters. All those games are just "Clone of Duty" now.

Seaside hill etc might have 3 layouts each but they are quite different, one of the final fortress ones is like a load of fast S-bends, the last seaside hill track is a good mix of fast pipes with some sharp cornering at the end, they just share a lot of level assets only.

And even then they're utilized so very differently. Jump Parade and Sunshine Tour (/Studio Amigo for the DS ver) are vastly different.

As far as original levels go I was more talking about the actual courses. Although I'll agree, the reused Sonic landscapes disappointed me. As for the music, yes it's cycled, but if you buy all the music, you have about 5 or 6 tracks shared by a total of 3 levels so you get variety. And as far as characters are concerned I know the Bonanza Bros. are strange but fuck at least they're real. And it's a nice obscure throw back. Fuck you could say the same for Opa Opa and the Chu Chus but it's nice that they're in the game.

It's not just like Mario Kart I guess but really if you're looking for comparisons Mario Kart is the first game that comes to mind really. To say that they aren't similar in anyway is kinda impossible... well I guess you could say the game is like Crash Team Racing but I know only one person who would appreciate that =P

Also the other series do a great job of mixing things up. All of Samba's levels are vastly different, Billy Hatcher does share two snow environments but one is a lava level, House of the Dead has some nice variety for the most part, and all the monkey ball levels have different environments. JSRF also mixes things up quite nicely. It's really only the Sonic levels that shamelessly share things. And when you think about it, seeing as how Mario Kart only has 16 new levels, if you cut out the duplicates your left with about 15 or 16 areas that you could call original. So at least you get more levels.

But also this game will never beat Mario Kart Wii or even come close unless they churn out more sequels and earn the people's trust with this one.

Check this out if it hasnt been posted already.

How to use PC version with any controller (if you're not already using a 360 controller)

Download this (copy and paste url in to browser)

    <a href="http://www.tocaedit.com/IB/index.php?autom...amp;showfile=32" target="_blank">http://www.tocaedit.com/IB/index.php?autom...amp;showfile=32</a>

Extract contents to game folder. Enjoy!

    Notes:

    [using USB adapter]
Dreamcast controller seems to have a glitches... with button config working at start of race but then messing up later in the game.
PS2 controller works fine though. I think this is because it has more buttons.

One thing that has been bothering me about this, is that they seemed to have totally forgotten about the Hornet from Daytona USA, which is actually a racing game, not to mention an AM2 game like Virtua Fighter. This would have definitely appealed more, seeing that the series has was extremely popular during Genesis/Saturn era.

I'm not quite sure why they didn't have the hornet. I remember they mentioned something about it but it's a damn shame that they didn't because the hornet would have been my favorite character instantly.

They wanted to focus on characters who aren't normally in racing games.

And they did. But they could have thrown the hornet in there for shits and gigs too.

Actually I forgot to mention. Did anyone read the Bios for the characters in this game? Now we all know that Sonic likes Chili Dogs again as that's been re-added to the canon but also they mentioned how Tails likes Mint Candy and how Knuckles likes fruit, especially grapes.

Hooray for resurrecting the long lost facts from the US Sonic 3 manual and Sonic Jam Bios :D

Oh and Amy likes Ice Cream, but unless that's from the Sonic CD manual I think they pulled that one out of their ass

EDIT: I need assistance! I have one achievement that I simply can't get myself. Anyone want to play this game over Xbox live (None of my friends on Xbox live have this game D: )

Sonic Unleashed, actually... but that's because smart people learned not to buy that trainwreck that was Black Knight.

I haven't bought a sonic game since sonic rush. I just watched the opening movie of black knight.

Correction, idiots didn't try Black Knight at all because they think like you. Black Knight was actually the best 3D Sonic game to have come out post SA2. Of course you wouldn't know that because you haven't played it, just like everyone else who freaked out about "OMG BAD CONTROLS AND CAMERA!!!1" only because all they did was WATCH someone play BADLY. I thought Unleashed sucked, by the way.
