No need to think about this so deeply. It's a retcon. That's all there is to it. As I've mentioned before, it's not like SEGA themselves take the canon seriously (“the moon flipped after SA2”, says Iizuka)

The best thing that cutscene video showed?

The option that exists to shut the fucking radio off. THANK GOD.

Aww cute. Classic Death Egg includes basically all the gimmicks that existed in Sonic 3 & Knuckles' Death Egg, even that little counter and ring transport thing.

lmao when Modern Sonic said “don't worry Tails I'm sure we'll meet him [Classic Sonic] again” I was like “OH GOD PLEASE NO DON'T PUT HIM THROUGH THAT TORTURE AGAIN”

Ok I've viewed bits of pieces of the whole game now and I think I'm pretty set. This looks like stupid fun. It looks better than Lost World and arguably Colors, although a little less creative environment wise.

Sega just really, REALLY sucked at marketing this one. "HEY GUYS HERE'S 2 LEVELS FOR OVER A YEAR HAVE FUN." No screw that. If this game got similar marketing to Mania I think people would be looking forward to it more. Obviously a little harder since by my count there are only like, 7 total worlds (Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Death Egg, Metropolis, that Casino Jungle, Ruined City, and Final Eggman tower), but still. Does this game look perfect? Absolutely not. But if I can actually enjoy Lost World I really think I'll enjoy this.

    So fuck it. Purchased.

I still think the game looks awful.

I skipped around the cutscenes though and got some good laughs. The OCs honestly all look so ugly.

Favorite line - Tails: "True dat".

Hm, seeing the levels is unquestionably making the game look better (granted I keep seeing recycled level design but I'll let that slide) . At least it's not looking like utter shit.

We've got 30 levels in the main game with some side quests which is Sonic Colors standard, okay.

Odd thought though, Mike Pollock is terrible as Eggman. I can't take him seriously.

The story itself, ain't serious despite the "torture" and "Eggman taking over the world" crap. They're just hamfisted into there to make the game look darker than it is.

Infinite is still lame. The fact that he is nothing more than a shitty VR trooper solidifies that.

And lastly, it goes to show that Sega were sabotaging themselves. If only they showed off more of the game, the current reception wouldn't be so shit. Thank you leakers, you are doing better than Sega.

Watching the streams for this game, and seeing the game in its entirety, knowing the level design that only slightly, very slightly improves by the end of the game, what is the appeal to getting the game? The story was much better watched really. I don't see any reason to get this game when there are better alternatives.

I think this still isn't worth it, at all

The game to me isn't bad because its full of glitches or bugs or anything. This game feels bad to me because its evident they just didn't care and while the game's polished, I feel it's got nothing else for it.

Well, I will say the game doesn't look like a complete train wreck now. Seeing the whole story through to the end gave me a bit more closure about the plot, and while it's still pretty bland, it isn't horrible. The script on the other hand, is laughable and cringe-y (What's infinite's favorite color gais?). The voice direction was weirdly inconsistent, and I didn't like a lot of the dialogue between characters. But, it's about as phoned in and cheesy as any of the Adventure games honestly, so I don't really hate I suppose.

The levels still look lousy, and they don't really improve at all, just sort of get less predictable, and even then you can still pretty much guess what they're gonna throw at you. I might have been okay with it, but the shitty controls have prevented me from ever wanting to touch this game again. Really wish they just stuck with Modern Sonic this time around. This game looks like a solid 6/10, which is better than what I anticipated, but still not great.

I think for me this game met my expectations exactly.

It's not the worst Sonic game, but it's incredibly mediocre and uninspired. It lacks focus and care. It's kind of a hodgepodge of a bunch of things they hope stick to the wall. It recycles way too much.

I'm gonna be avoiding this game.

Ya what do you all think. IMO the levels look better than Lost World's and most of Colors'. They don't look nearly as good as Generations' though. Classic Sonic seems less broken than he was in Generations but the level designs are obv worse.

But ya they say they've been working on this for longer than Mania. Why does it look so cheap though? I bet there's an interesting story behind it's development. I'm also wondering how this game influenced Mania, well beyond the obvious.

Eggman just claimed he is now the ultimate life form! Hold on a second as I catch my breath....can't stop LAUGHING.

I mean at least in the end he's really bad guy! I just don't understand Metal Sonic version 17,562 (Infinite).

I still don't fully see the Sonic Mania connection....unless it's just the fact that one of the prototypes got loose and ended up on the alternate Angel Island and alternate past Eggman found it first.....and the Titanic Monarch boss form kind of mimic's the Forces final boss.

I think the only level that got my interest was the final one, everything else just feels like it was ripped from the past games, and the amount of autopilot for Classic Sonic is just bleh. No one looked really all that fun to play imo

All it boiled down to was advertising. The Phantom Ruby popped up in Mania world, 'accidentally' warps Mania Sonic to the main timeline/Forces, and then everything in Forces is independent of that presumably. The fact that Mania Sonic has to go away at the end is practically more of a cosmic force at work than the Phantom Ruby itself, as no one implies anything about him being linked to it. So Mania basically existed for Sonic Team to create a stepping stool excuse to implement Classic Sonic and there's no real plot ties beyond that and both using the Phantom Ruby.
That's honestly a lot of Forces right now. A lot of attempts to hype things up that have little to no payoff whatsoever.

In a world where Mania exists, this game is simply not up to par.

In a world where Mario fucking Odyssey exists, this level of abject mediocrity is UNACCEPTABLE.

Daily reminder that Odyssey has better rolling and momentum physics than anything Sonic Team has produced in nearly two decades as a side detail.

Fidelity-wise? Sure, that's a given. Concept and design? Fuck, no

Death Egg was definitely cool though. Waiting for a complete stream to see if there are any more than three stages that aren't dependent on recycled assets. Doesn't look like it from the cutscenes.

  18. From a story point of view, I just don't get how they've managed to just fudge it up on both games. Like, level transitions missing in Mania and then the whole premise of why Mania Sonic is in Forces.

Mania ended with Sonic and the (because it's the only one in existence in Mania), phantom ruby. There's gotta be something more to the story from what I'm seeing, either yet to be revealed through a prequel Comic or Episode Shadow. I'm thinking there's something missing between Ruby Illusions and Mania Sonic just landing on Chaos.

And speaking of Chaos / any other enemy. My gosh, is this biggest bait and switch for all the major rivals and enemies in the franchise ever. Yet alone only fighting Zavok and Metal. This game could have been done without having to involve any of those bad guys They've provided no extra plot description / story telling. The star wars scene at the end was probably the hardest I've cringed at a Sonic game in a long time, and that's considering Sonic 4 ep1/2 and Heroes were a thing.

To solve the time and dimension issues:
Classic Sonic comes from an alternative dimension, but, from the point of view of the inhabitants of the modern dimension, he comes from the past as there's been a long time since classic Sonic became the modern one. You could say the classic-only dimension got frozen but some time-space interferences (classic Sonic fans becoming official devs) started opening a small hole between both dimensions that let classic Sonic travel to this post-classic modern dimension if unstable singularities with the modern dimension as a source (time eater, phantom ruby, plotholes and bad aiming in general) allowed him to do so, whether he liked it or not. Now that hole is becoming bigger and the stability of the classic-only timeline may repair those singularities or become affected by them, who knows.

    About the release itself:
I hate Colours, so saying it's better than that isn't saying that much to me, specially considering controls are the first thing I want to work well in a Sonic game and you're saying they aren't good at all in this game. From what I've read, you've only made me consider to purchase it the day it costs less than 10€ on Steam, and just because I'm some kind of masochist and wouldn't mind that low-cost self-torturing just to go through the story by myself.

    About the spoilers:
I don't know why they're so happy in that ending screen, they should be ashamed for not being able to save the world by themselves considering previous games and fights against Robotnik. Saving the world and Sonic shouldn't have taken them more than a week. Oh, and they even need classic Sonic now to save their own dimension; it should be impossible for modern Robotnik to fail conquering the world again.

I meant strictly from like a level design standpoint, not concept wise. Colors was far more creative concept wise but level design wise that game had more repeated geometry and lazy spring/platform levels than this game seems to.

On another note though, I love the credits theme. Very pretty sounding song.
