I made this font back in 2002. it is even delta hinted at size 21 to be pixel perfect. Hope this will help:


The font doesn't cover any numbers though since I would have no idea how to delta hint them in their original sizes, and not knowing the rest of the numbers and how they look.
Sonic 2 Title

 

Still not done, but working on a more 'solid' look, working currently on doing some inbetween tones for the dirt/rock area. Any suggestions welcome, pretty much will be working on it to get as much detail as possible.

 

I really love how the island is coming out.
Paying attention to every small bit of dark shade to appear like trees it should have been quite difficult.

I suggest, like you said:

-More contrast and inbetween shades
-Giving a clearer shape of small details, like trees and some roughness to the fields or rocks


Anyway, great work indeed!

I'm on dafont.com right now. I'll update this post when I find any good candidates.

Finished checking fonts beginning with letters A-J.
Checking fonts beginning with K (later).

None of the following fonts match, but can be useful for recreating the font we want:
Bad Blocks Font
Bummer
Faktos
Galaxy - The S shape here looks spot on, minus the white spots.

 

Update with background

Planning on adding some details like some small trees also making the areas more defined with inbetween tones, also haven't done any effects on the water. Yay for 3 days off in a row, gonna do a lot of work and try to completely finish by the 5th.

Yes, looking great so far! It needs a lot of details; since this is the title screen we want people to get a great first impression of the level of work we put into this project. If you don't have it completely finished by the 5th then that's just fine. Art is not to be rushed.

The very top-right corner should be rounded out instead of being sharp and the bottom of the little spring should be flat to show where it ends. I'm not so sure as to whether the spring should be more compressed or not, given that it would be more open when it springs Sonic up even though the original gives off a more compressed look.

 

Last update for a day or so, minor things, working on inbetween shades of the green shades...

The spring should have more loops. The colors behind the star should be darker. The small bump before the spring should be closer to the spring, and it seems like the top is too long as it cuts of early. Have it cut off later.

About the water - I don't think the mountain should be casting a shadow on it.

In the original, the water is sparkling because of the sun's reflection. I think it also might disturb the aesthetic if there's a symmetrical outline of the mountain right underneath it.

I might be wrong about this though, it could be a nice new addition - feel free to experiment a bit.

 

I agree with Athelstone and I'm thinking about water:

Shouldn't be better to use some nice FX for the sparkling water?
On the MD this effect was really "limited" by moving those sparklings in and out.

Why was he banned?
That looks good except for the spring itself which has too few spirals, should be a bit thicker and should have a circular base (2D=line) instead of a sharp point.

Also WOW @ Vincent! That title screen Sonic looks amazing.

 

I agree, the water has the clone of the mountain in it right now as a guideline for where the fx will go.

I like Elratauru's version, especially the perspective fix.

But the "star" is too big - attracts too much attention.

And the perspective of the star is wrong since the board rotates around that point
