The first letter is definitely "stone". The second one I'm not so sure about. I can't think what it could be. Any hints? Edit: Should say "character", since these are kanji.
The first one looks like the leftmost part of the first kanji. The second one just looks similarly complicated but it's not the same... EDIT: I still think this is the easiest way to get the answer... =|
I wasn't using Qjimbo's letters. His make out Stone Curtain. Here are my letters. ?? Which one isn't right?
Right, thanks for the clarification, ICEknight. I'm sure that will be useful to people. I might just take a stab at a guess after all...
I'm positive the first character is ? - that's "stone". The second one I'm not sure about - it seems badly drawn. ? "sand" contains stone, but I'm not sure of the radical and it just doesn't look right.
Hmm, this looks similar, though I'm not sure if it's right or not: ?? ..In which case, if that is right, then the name is simply "Desert Zone". EDIT: On second thoughts, that looks nothing like it to me. =P If it is, then that's some seriously bad handwriting, there. XD
Yep, seriously bad handwriting. Here's the quote from the guy who helped me translate it. So that's it: Sabaku=Desert. Surprised?
Wow, I got it right. Score! I guess sometimes the right answers really are the most obvious ones... ^^;
Except there's two kanji, so it's Sand Desert Zone (??; ? is "sand", ? is "desert" - Jeffrey's kanji lookup shows that).
In this case, it's one word with two kanji... You can just translate "desert" to Japanese using the link I mentioned before, and you'll get those two.
Well I hope this is concrete proof of the name, so we can finally close this topic once and for all :D I look forward to reading about where you got it from etc. etc.
Brenda Ross was right after all. She always call it the Desert zone... This makes sense too, just looks at Wood zone, and this applies to both sand and snow. But I want to know where you found this information before approving it for myself.
EDIT: Grr, hit add reply instead of preview by accident. Anyways, Q, that definition says that a Desert can be both sandy and or snowy.
Can't fault that, it's a sensible attitude. I presume we'll find out at ICEknight's next Sonic Database update, if not before... Can't wait. =P
Is this image some kind of proof? So you used the same colors as in your avatar? Who's your source? Where did the image come from? Looks like a instruction booklet scan to me.
There is two deserts type. The sand desert (Sahara) and the ice desert (in Russia for example). EDIT: Posts are posted damn fast! I hope not.
