Fun fact: they did exactly that. They gave her a double jump, a ground attack to hit enemies and objects without rolling, and a wider hit radius in jumps.

I think Amy's moveset in Sonic Advance works in the context of Sonic Advance, but doesn't work in the context of the classics. So I don't really mind them bringing her more in line with the other three.

oh yeah this game comes out in a few days right

Just give me a Solo-Amy game with her Hammer Acrobatics. That moveset was sick enough to carry its own game designed around it.
FUCK Sonic formula. It's our time Amy sisters.

I remember fantasizing about Amy The Hedgehog (and Tails Adventures 2 lmao) on GBA back when that was still getting new games...

Really the GBA/DS era would've been perfect for some lower budget side-character starring games. It's actually kinda odd Shadow didn't get one considering his heyday. Would've loved to see those Battle moves emphasized in a platformer instead of the shooter jank we got.

It didn't have to, she could have been the pro mode character. Get more out of it in the long run if you get good but seemingly worse at first but even if she was worse at least it's interesting. I really enjoyed how they did Amy in Advance 1. That being said for multiplayer I can see the argument especially with all 4 characters being equally important and needing to keep up on screen but I still don't like it.

I don't agree, also Rogue doesn't do the ball or spindash either. And Amy was fun, she was my favorite character to use as a kid because it was so unique and forced me to tackle things in all new ways. Her implementation in Advance stands taller than any other 2D character because it's not Sonic again. She was Amy, she couldn't ball up, she didn't run quite as fast but she got there in her own way and that was cool. Her being in a car in R is cool. In a way she was the series' Batman, no real powers just trained a lot and uses a hammer for everything. We're all set for "Sonic but X" why did she also need to become that?

  6. Meh.

I see why they did it but I preferred how it worked in Sonic Advance. From her introduction, Amy's whole characterisation was that of someone who isn't super-athletic or capable like Sonic et al. Sonic the Fighters, Sonic R, Sonic Adventure, Sonic Advance, etc., all represented her in this way and I liked the variation it brought. Since Heroes, it's been back and forth, with Heroes having her play the same as everyone else and then 06 swinging back the other way. Overall, I prefer Amy to be depicted as "normal" and not as a super-hedgehog.

Amy is one of my favourite Advance playthroughs due to how it forces you to view and interact with the environments completely differently. In the context of this game (co-op, accessibility, etc.), I think it's understandable that they decided to have her play pretty much identically to the others, but they could have still figured out a way to do so but keep things in line with her prior characterisation. Roller blades or something?

I mean Shadow the Hedgehog was even given his little skates to justify his speed in-game... Amy just automatically gets it now.

Wonder if we'll still see Super Sonic erroneously on SCD's island (unless there's a secret new cheat of his playability being added they haven't disclosed yet, I can dream).

Is the necessary one button Classic moveset also a factor in Amy's current kit? Or making sure she'd still work correctly across 4 existing games they usually only alter for Tails/Knuckles? I would've also suggested the Advance moveset being more of a Dimps thing, but I think that game did still have Sonic Team involvement and she maybe played similar in other games regardless.

Sonic Spinball was deserving of a remake

Anyone else think the hate this compilation gets is a but misguided?

The collection had its issues at launch for sure, but most of them seem to have been ironed out, no?

As far as Retro compilations go, I don't think I can name a single one that rebuilt each game from scratch with a new engine, adding widescreen and even now additional characters.

It's a but sloppy in places, with weird menus and odd choices like the musicless gallery unless you make a playlist, but the games and their quality are where it shines, imo.

Only one game was rebuilt from the ground up. The others are old remakes sloppily slapped together with the additional features being half assed and some questionable changes and omissions.
This is the equivalent to the Mega Man Anniversary Collection where they took the Perfect Works versions and chopped them up.
The worst part is that it had no reason to turn out this way. They had Stealth right there but for some reason they're refusing to consult him.
SEGA also went above and beyond and delisted the old emulated versions. Regardless of your emulation stance, that still stinks.

I also feel that the collection got an extremely unfair amount of hate, but that’s more due to the executive decisions made at SEGA (the rushed release date, the DLCs, the preorder charts, etc.). That really was the domino effect of all this.

But if you take that away, you still have a solid compilation of remakes (10 years old or not, they were still built from the ground up) with more gameplay improvements than Sonic Jam and any other emulation-based Sonic collection.

Origins did exactly what I wanted it to do, finally combine the stories of the classic trilogy (and CD) in one narrative, idk if there’s an official term so I’ll just call it the “death egg saga.” They also got sonic 3 in the retro engine finally. Yea there are fan projects out there for each game but to me personally, it did what I wanted and expected so I was happy to pay the price.

Basically it seems like stuff on Sonic Team's end in either their questionable quirks (Lives/Coins being confined to either Classic or Anniversary Mode respectively, the save system they went with, soundtrack choices) or straight-up issues (pixels being blurry when they shouldn't, SCD's cutscenes being too damn loud) still seem to be present from what we've seen in footage of Origins Plus.

But at the same time, Headcannon is actually being allowed to tinker with all four games in the collection now and they DID fix the Timer bug in SCD. So at least the stuff 100% inside the remasters might get addressed by them, if that makes sense. Stealth was pretty vocal about S3&K coming out different than intended on release and they did mention being allowed to add a few additional updates and enhancements, which we still have no idea what those are except for maybe Knuckles' new SCD routing and the aforementioned fix. I'd hope they'd make the Drop Dash uniform across games and tweak the physics of S3&K to make them more like the original (apparently it's just the original game's values as interpreted by RSDK that result in the speedier physics, so that's probably something they'd consider an issue?), but we'll see. There are also still pretty minor inconsistencies between the games like only S3&K having blue fade-outs, but eh.

Origins' weird thing was that Sonic Team was in charge of handling Taxman/Stealth's existing remasters with an engine they were clearly a bit squeamish towards. I don't even hate all the additions they did make, but they'd awkwardly implement stuff like the Drop Dash in S1/SCD/S2 (it's a reskinned Spin Dash you can clearly see the animation frames of) and straight-up had to bring back Headcannon for stuff like Knuckles finally being in SCD. And for what they didn't add to those games, they'd also take the effort to remove a few things like SCD's voices.

The hate can be a bit overblown, even I realised my list of issues was partially kinda nitpicky and probably accidentally helped paint a worse depiction of the game than should've, and I am looking forward to the new additions in Plus, adding new stuff and updates onto the solid existing versions of these games. I just hope some things end up getting addressed/added, or are at least easy to mod in.

Don't forget you can't buy the standalone Sonic CD 2011 version unless you already own in! It's just gone now! I know you probably meant that too when you meant old emulated versions, but some stuff from it isn't in Origins like the sprite filtering that CD had and I think you can't toggle which Spin Dash to use in Origins?

For real, even I, being one of Origins biggest defenders can see that it has a lot of flaws, and how SEGA handled some things was outright shameful, when I see people see people say that this is the worst Sonic collection or that (other Sonic collection) did it better I fell they might be a little blinded by nostalgia or what they have heard about this game online, because lets be real just having all 4 games remade from the ground up in 16:9 the dropdash in Sonic 3 (and all the little details that port has overall HC really outdid themselves), the instashield and elemental shields in Sonic 1 and 2 and having all 4 playable characters be playable in all 4 games are very big things that vastly improve the game experience, and makes this the best Sonic collection by more than a mile imo, and most of the omissions or downgrades are also present in past collections, it has lots of flaws, but people don't give it the credit it deserves, still respect everyone's opinion about this game even if it differs from mine tho :D

Origins remains the best official way of playing the classics, in my eyes. Sega mishandled a lot about it on a metatextual level, and there’s still some oddly glaring bugs that have yet to be fixed (the endless debris in Marble Garden was still there on my last playthrough), but overall, I find it really hard to complain about it. I’m personally very excited to run through the games again as Amy and to play the Game Gear games again. Still wish it included some of the other games - Fighters, R, 3D Blast, Spinball, Chaotix - so that it’d be a “perfect” collection of classic Sonic.

No you can still toggle which Spin Dash you can use in SCD, even in the other modes like Classic Mode (I'm not sure about Story Mode, but a weird quirk is that Anniversary Mode's choice on Spin Dash/soundtrack affects what's used in other modes like Boss Rush). The sprite filtering is indeed gone, for better or for worse.
