The trailer was taken down from the EU store pages, so it probably wasn't supposed to be revealed yet. I guess Sega Europe fucked up.
I am so happy there is a split screen mode, as I loved the 2P player mode in Sonic 2 Remastered. It was one of the highlights of the game. Hopefully it will have the Super character bug that was in Sonic 2. I also hope you can play co-op in split screen, as that would be a good solution to Tails disappearing of the screen. (Although I appreciate that the small development team might not have the resources to offer lots of 2P options.)
Well, there's two big Mania news bits that were planned for E3. Now all that's left to show that's been leaked is that cathedral zone.
Now all I want is a final zone count (not necessarily which zones), though it has so far been hinted to be 10+ (longer than generations) and I can go back into the dark for a few more months.
Why leave it as a bug? They could implement a Super option for 2P. Actually now thinking about it, they could implement a few different options. Obviously the Sonic 2 way of scoring it, but you could also do a Race to the finish. How about collect the most coins in 2 minutes? Or kill the most enemies. I guess just basically dissect Sonic 2s scoring into their own options. Then you could do modifiers too, like all Shield are a single type, random monitors, no monitors, no enemies, no rings, no character exclusive abilities for a Fox only, Final Destination style of race. I could see myself having a lot of fun with this. Also please give me the option to race as the same character.
The nicest thing about the Super Sonic bug in 2 player was that both players could use the teleporter item to steal the Super powers. It allowed for a game of 'Super Sonic tag' and added a whole new dimension to the game. I'd love for that to be back. And yes, like JcFerggy said have it as option instead of a bug. But I am sure whatever Taxman and Stealth will give will be awesome!
Man, you really just have a one track mind. Every post you make is about the graphics. OT: I mean, August is fine for a release date. I do wish it was a little earlier, solely because I am so excited to play this game. I really just want to play it right now. 3 months is fine for a wait, I just hope it doesn't get delayed again.
I'm fine with an August release date. Honestly, I'd begun to accept the possibility of a September release date. I posited this exact theory several months ago. :v:
NO! We already had [strike]Aquatic Ruin[/strike]Sylvania Castle in Sonic 4! I also don't care that it was five years ago.
The problem is that almost every Sonic 2 stage has been remade at some point in recent memory. Emerald Hill - Not yet, but Green Hill fills that trope. Chemical Plant - Generations console Aquatic Ruin - S4e2 Casino Night - Generations 3DS/S4e1 Hilltop - Not yet, but too close to the Green Hill trope, honestly Mystic Cave - Not yet Hidden Palace - Would be an interesting choice, but we've also already had one Taxman version, so 2013 s2 port Oil Ocean - s2e4 Metropolis - s4e1 Sky Chase - s4e2 Wing Fortress - s4e2 Death Egg - Generations, s4e1. Meaning about the only tropes which HAVEN'T been remade since 2010 for sonic 2 are Emerald, Hill Top, and Mystic Cave. My vote would go towards the latter, personally. But I've no idea which one they will actually choose.
I would not rule out multiple stages from Sonic 2 making an appearance in Mania. There's so much we don't know, including the exact number of stages. For all we know this will be about as long as S3&K, so that could be a truly insane amount of stages for a 2D Sonic.
Sonic the Fighters/championship used some sonic 2 zones too. Notably Wing Fortress zone and Casino Night zone. Also, this sounds like a fun game:
A 2-player competitive split screen mode ala Sonic 2 was pretty much the one top thing I was hoping this game would have but was worried wasn't gonna make it. That makes me super happy, I hope it has similar rules to the Sonic 2 one, with wins based on time, score, rings and item boxes. Oh, and the 'swap boxes only' option!
It looks like August 15 is a pretty reliable date. This isn't just some plaintext leak - the fact that it was edited into multiple different versions of the trailer means they were pretty confident about it and planning to announce it. It's pretty impressive that these kinds of fuckups still happen as often as they do, but at least this will put rumours of another delay to rest. Splitscreen multiplayer was pretty much a given from the beginning, but it's nice to have official confirmation. The interesting thing will be how they'll handle it now that the technical constraints of the Mega Drive are gone. We'd all prefer the Sonic 2 approach to the Sonic 3 approach, right? 10+ massive zones to race through with a friend seems like a childhood dream. Also, as others have said, splitscreen co-op please. If anyone here hasn't put Mania at the top of their Steam wishlist yet, I'll be very disappointed Edit: I finally decided to go check what happens if you're invincible and use a spring in the middle of an enemy chain. In the original game, the point value resets when you hit the spring. In Mania, it keeps going up Edit 2: Now that we finally have a probable release date, I'm suddenly aware of how much I don't want to see more of this game before I get to play it myself. Hopefully we get the number of full zones soon, that's all I really still want to know.
100% down for some Aquatic Ruins love. That art style and music deserve to get a S3&K-style level design overhaul. Also means we would get a decent water-themed zone as an added bonus. If this means no Hydrocity, I guess I would be okay with it if we got a left-field choice like Launch Base Zone as a vanilla Sonic 3 rep (here's hoping they will give us at least two zones from S3&K, it's too juicy to limit to just one, good as Flying Battery is).
It seems Sega over the years have picked up the reuse a level thing from Mario. I always liked that Sonic would present new worlds in every game, with some exceptions (Emerald/Green). I'm looking forward to experiencing Mania's new ideas, because the ones we have seen look fantastic
