I'm back from work, so....... Time for TJ's Phun With Physix! Sonic's always been able to defy gravity with his super speed. In Sonic 4, he's gained the ability to defy gravity by sheer will power alone! Ohhh, he gonna go really, really fast now! Look out below! He stayed in place, stuck in that animation until I moved him. Does whatever a Spider-Hog does... And you thought that last one was bad? I may enter these in that refund thing, but I kinda shudder at the thought of getting a Twitter account, so...whatever. I had fun taking these, so I don't really care what happens to them. EDIT: lol, you can crouch in the upper right corner of a loop for a split second before you fall.
Thought so. It's why I'm hoping that E2 doesn't 'lock-on' to E1, if only because the concept of patching up E1 with better physics and adjusting existing stage design (which would need to be done if they add any extra characters anyway) seems a bti far-fetched. It's not so much hard as it is not what you'd expect. And as with almost any game the suicide attack before the last hit is cheap.
So, I pulled a Tweaker yesterday and played the Wii version using Dolphin. Whilst I only got 30fps, it was obvious that the physics were downright awful. They could have at least made some fixes but they left the game out in the open, resulting in this: First run of Splash Hill Act 1 too! The replacement acts for Casino Street Zone and Lost Labyrinth Zone were decent, however I raged hard at that fucking torch puzzle. I could say that this game can be enjoyed, but Sega definately have to get their asses in gear and fix those damn physics for later episodes. I wouldn't mind a lock-on with Episode I, because it would be better without the silly physics. Oh and that special stage is a bugger. Thanks for reading.
Okay! Made it to the E.G.G. Station! Mad Gear was pretty nuts...especially the 3rd Act. Thank God for Super Sonic. ...Okay, I haven't been checking out any spoilers on this board, and I know it's been asked numerous times, I'm sorry, but...how do you defeat the final boss when it's all fucked up and electrified? It doesn't seem like there's any open areas to attack without getting hurt.
Homing attack the claw. In midair if you want to do it quickly (careful, it's still electrified) or wait for it to hit the ground where you can homing attack it three times.
You have to wait for his arm to get back to him (it'll be back from the top of the screen) and hit the arm, it will smash the boss and you'll be able to hit the boss two or three times before he gets up again.
After it lands, it will usually shoot its hand at you. Dodge it (which you don't need to do it all if you stand right next to the mech) and it will shoot past you and fall down slowly from above. Hit it in between the periods where it's sparking, and it will give you some points and ricochet into the mech, cutting its power long enough for you to get some hits in. If you just jump into it, you have time to get three hits in. If you use the Homing Attack after hit 3 to get a 4th, run back to the right ASAP, as he might start to lunge forward again, and if you're quick enough you can run right through. Also, I keep meaning to point this out - if you stand on the rising pillars at the sides of the LLZ boss (when he closes you into the arena after the chase sequence), you can leap off and hit Eggman before they crush you against the ceiling. EDIT: D-D-DOUBLE NINJA'D
Yeah, considering how easy they are. Once you've beaten them, you can do it again and again and again. No, seriously, the Sonic 4 boss is the hardest Sonic boss I've ever faced, and I've pretty much played all of the games. Maybe it's the at first, second and third glance the almost random attack patterns that he seems to have, or the way in which he moves, or the fact that he has at least 28+ hits, and when he hits you your rings go flying up out of view. I dunno. I think I've nailed it now, but I still get hit though.
I finally got through E.G.G. Station without losing any rings, and of course the mech did damage to me on the final hit. It slammed into the floor, I jumped and used the Homing Attack, and somehow I got hurt. What the fuck. That's NEVER happened, and I've beaten this boss at least fifteen times. And I still can't get all the rings during the ending, I must be some special brand of retarted.
Just completed the Xbox 360 version. It's a really fun game, no Sonic 3 & Knuckles, but fun. For those of you that haven't tried Super Sonic's Epic Spindash jump, do it now. It's amazing. (Just don't let go of the direction you're pressing though :specialed Also, I've dashed passed every end of level sign as Super Sonic but didn't get the achievement, do I need to play E.G.G. Station again with all my emeralds?
Pitfalls have been around for ages, and are quite a traditional element for platformers, but does that mean they should always exist in Sonic games? Just because of tradition alone? An example of a Sonic game that I've never experienced a pitfall in (I know there is one), is Sonic CD -- a game I think nails the fact Sonic doesn't entirely need to suffer from them, and if he does, they surely shouldn't be annoying hard obstacles over the largest pitfall the developers could stretch across the bottom playing field. There are other environmental designs that can be made to take place of pitfalls to add difficulty (Mad Gear makes good use of environmental hazards). Personally, I just don't find pits a fun challenge. Especially in a platformer where you're moving fast, and don't always expect them -- an aspect that made Sonic Unleashed particularly annoying a lot of times. Any other obstacle I've died from, I had no problem with. It was against the BS pitfalls that my personal experience was severely impacted. ESPECIALLY at the end of acts like Casino Streets 2 where I'd love to be able to get to the special stage, but die at the end trying. Simply frustrating.
You jumped the gun. Come in contact with Eggman before his attack animation ends, and you take a hit. Jump once to avoid the shockwave, and then Homing Attack him when he's still. Just don't hesitate and you should be fine.
My god, I'm getting so sick of running through E.G.G. Station Zone over and over again just to fucking jump too soon before that second to last trio of rings during the ending. At least I'm getting good practice, I'm clocking in around 5:40ish with scores of around 86,000. I can totally fuck up that mech now though. He doesn't stand a chance.
serpx makes a decent point. For a speedy game like Sonic 4, platforming or no, it certainly doesn't need bottomless pitfalls. Given sensible enough execution, though, they can work. Case in point: Scrap Brain Zone, Wing Fortress Zone, and Sky Sanctuary Zone. As long as it makes sense and isn't cheaply poked here and there in levels, like in Advance 1 & 2, it'll lend to the games' challenge instead of cheaply make up fot a lack of it.
Thanks for the help guys! I'll try and beat him later on tonight. I had to look at the current MetaCritic scores of Sonic the Hedgehog 4. I'm a bit surprised... XBox 360 = 76 PS3 = 80 Wii = 82 So far so good, I suppose.
Hmm, I've been reading a lot of the pages, and I'm not surprised at the reaction. At first, this game was alright to me. But after playing Splash Hill for so long, I ended up really loving the game. I know it's nothing like the classics, but as its own, its a fantastic game, despite the flaws it has. That is my only problem with this game, that it could have been so much more, and it should have been. I guess what's bringing me into this game so much is the speed running aspect of it, which is my one of my most favorite reasons why I love Sonic so much. Here's hoping that Ep 2 would raise everyone's confidence in Sonic games for people today. Also, for you speed runners. Here's my run for Splash Hill Zone 1. Sucks that I only have the demo though, which means no proof for leaderboards. Will be buying it soon though
Finally got all the rings in the ending sequence, and didn't get touched in E.G.G. Station to boot. I can die happy. My Time Bonus took a hit somewhere though, I'm not sure where, as I could've sworn I blew through it faster than before, so I got a shitty score. Oh well, I've gotten it down to 5:32 with 88,500 points, so I'm satisfied. Looking forward to doing it again on the 360 when I have cash to blow, so I'll actually get something for my effort. A little annoyed I didn't wait a couple days and get the 360 version to begin with, but that was due to a lack of communication between my roommate and myself. He said something about how his Borderlands level cap was getting raised "around the 12th" so he could play the new DLC and get something out of it, and since we have to share his XBOX (mine finally bought the farm), I settled for the Wii version so I wouldn't be in his way. I asked him yesterday if he'd played any Borderlands and he was like "I don't think they've raised it yet." I guess he had the date wrong. Damn shootan games ruining everything for platform gamers. EDIT: StriC, that speed run in SEXY.
