    He means a bunch of guys wanking it to the idea of a potentially good Sonic game, a side scroller even.

    As for that earlier discussion on Sonic 1, I'm not seeing what's so bad about it compared to 2/CD.

    I happen to enjoy Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 practically in equal amounts as well, with my love for SCD a tad higher though.
     
  9. I don't mind Sonic 1, but prefer the later ones, because 3 acts feels too long for me. Also, it's slow on PAL >_> Let the flaming commence -_-
    This is an awful, awful thread.

    If this game is as good as Sonic 123 & Knuckles CD, then everyone will be happy/surprised. :)

    I'm just expecting a game like Sonic 2 but in HD. If they can manage to recapture how well Sonic 3 & Knuckles flowed though, I will be very surprised and quite happy, but it's very unlikely. Who knows.

    I'm crossing my fingers the most though that it's nothing like Sonic Rush or Unleashed, I want to play through the levels at my own pace without it moving me along like an automatic roller coaster.

    Actually, scratch that, Unleashed was quite good, it was the fastest Sonic game ever made. However, it's not what I want in an HD side scroller.

    I want this game to feel like a birthchild of S1's platforming, S2's speed, SCD's insane amount of exploration, and S3K's perfect sense of flow. Then I'll die happy.

    I always thought 2 had poor surrealism in half of the levels. There's nothing special about Aquatic Ruin, Hill Top, Mystic Cave or Wing Fortress.

    I thought Sonic 2 used color the best, it was easily the most colorful of all the 2D games.

    Sonic 3 & Knuckles had the best overall designs, everything felt so complete at that point. The zones, badniks, artwork, everything just looked wonderful. Sonic 1, 2, and CD were both very nice looking, but Sonic 3 & Knuckles were definitely the best looking in my opinion.

    Sonic 3 and Knuckles was the complete package. It was colorful, it portrayed the plots in simple, short cutscenes, without the need of voices, it had a great variety of enemies and gimmicks, it had some awesome environments which all had a pretty good variety as far as level designs go(Save Mushroom hill though. Seemed like a GHZ rip off. Still fun though) and it had just the right amount of characters, all of which were optional. If they did that again I would be a happy man.

    Also debug mode =P

    I thought that S3K was getting to the point where some stages were borderline-realistic. To me, that's the game's only real flaw, because I happen to believe that the surreal stuff is what defines Sonic completely. It's probably why I prefer Sonic CD over S3K as well (besides the fact that levels were ultra-explorable in that game, which was pretty awesome as well).

    Sonic CD's levels required obscene amount of memorization in order to get through them fast. Mixed with the speed cap and all that crap it kind of failed in my book. It looks great yes, I love the environments, but I couldn't stand the design. Ya exploration sure but it was kinda shoved down your throat. I don't really care about that machine, but then the future looks like balls until you get all the time stones.

    This game truely is going to be an fun game hopefully. I'm gonna guess on what they end up doing in this game(hopefully I get some of these right):

    - Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are playable, but you must play through the game as Sonic to unlock Tails, who you have to play with to unlock nuckles.
    - Based on the amount of zones in past Sonic games, I'm gonna say there's about....10 or so-ish zones in the game, with two acts per zone.
    - Dr. Robotnik is up to his evil tricks again, encasing animals into badniks. But this time, it'll probably have a purpose to why he's doing it this time, maybe relating to what you might fight as the final boss.
    - return of pinball physics (rolling to gain speed and things like that)
    - Jun Senou and the guys who did the music for Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3 will likely do some pieces together for the game.
    - Branching paths and maybe close to as much exploration as you'd normally find in Sonic CD.
    - Dr. Robotnik will use his Egg-o-mattic along with various attachments to try to stop Sonic in boss fights, a couple even from past games. Maybe even a more retro look to the Egg-o-mattic itself.
    - Sonic 3&k-styled cutscenes, but with a small amount of voice acting(hey, ya can't win them all).
    - Obligitory casino-themed zone
    - and of course, online play.

    By online play, what do I mean? If it does get implemented, I figure it'd be a little something like this:

    - Three modes of play: Time Trials(try to get the best time in a zone), battle royal(be the the last person standing), and grand prix(race several other people online to see who can make it to the end first).
    - avatars to be used to both in a sort-of lobby(people can chat there before a race or whatnot begins) and during all online modes, to show other players who's who.
    - There'd also be a line representing the distance of the zone, with icons(of the avatars or otherwise) to show who's where in the race. Allows you to figure out what to do and what items to grab when you need to.
    - A simple leaderboard for each mode, showing who's the fastest and who can last the longest. You can also look for your own rank in comparison to other players around your rank.
    - special trophies for completing both offline and online objectives(like placing first in a race, or completing the game as Sonic) which can also double as your obligitory achievements for Xbox Live.


    But this is just my guess on the whole thing. If it turns out like this, then cool. But then again it could become the exact opposite of this. We won't know until they release some more data to us. So here's to hoping to something good. :3
