This is the most bullshit statement ever.

 

Good games are timeless, as is Sonic 1.

 

I played S3&K and instantly fell in love. Sonic 1 is a close second favourite and I never liked Sonic 2 much, apart from half the zones.

 

Sorry to ruin your fanboy moment there, sonic 1 IS a good game. But im sure it wasnt the pinacle of Sonic gaming.

It god damn was. It does everything the others keep aiming to do. Be a fun fluid platformer.

 

It definitely wasn't, it was good for it's time but Sonic 2 and 3 are simply better in every way. Better graphics, the levels are more fun and imaginative, there are more paths per level, the games are longer, the controls are better and more fluid, they're faster without intruding with the level design, etc.

 

Can't we just agree that the like and dislike for a video-game is based on one's opinion, not fact, and leave it at fucking that? D=

 

The release dates of Sonic 1 and 2 differ exactly 1 year. Sonic 3 came out 2 years after. Those four years ARE the pinnacle of Sonic.

Funny, I thought pretty much every single entry in that "most annoying segments" thing came from Sonic 2.

A great game can have it's annoyances, and an okay game can seemingly just stay "okay" throughout without having any particular annoying segments. Sonic 1, after playing Sonic 2 and 3, is pretty boring now. At least in my opinion. The only games I'd play Sonic 1 over are pretty much all the portable games and Sonic '06.
