I'm in the same boat, since I don't use Firefox 3. I've been curious about all these animations they've been posting for a while now.

 

Don't know if frame#2 needs more contrast, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results! (Thanks everyone for your precious suggestions)

El! The animation is awesome! :D
Two things tough:

-When the starpost sphere glows, the magical thread should glow as well (with a stronger light)
-The magical thread should disappear sooner after the sphere reached it's highest glow.

Let's not waste any of these visual examples, don't forget to provide the source! ^^

Unfortunately GIFS, due their 256 colour limits, creates ton of garbage on these animations.

I hope IE users will be soon able to view them! (or maybe it's the right time to try out Firefox3! )

 

Opera apparently has APNG support (I recommend it [though I don't use it] because it has the best implementation of "web standards").

I use Chrome which does not -- presumably because APNG itself is non-standard as according to the people who came up with PNG.

'Course there's also MNG: http://www.libpng.org/pub/mng/

 

That 2nd Frame is..PERFECT, the contrast is really good, 100% metalic look I'd say.

about the animation, it was only testing my animation skills =P, later Im going to upload the psd and each frame I used.

Love the shading there.


The only that's not entirely correct would be:
RED: The connection between the coil and the bottom thingy.
BLUE: Sharp end, rather than curved.

Spiffy! As for my suggestions...

First off, the coils feel way too much like straight bars compared to coils—they're diagonally wrapped, which takes away from the circular feel they should have. If you can curve out the edges to make them look more like circles, that would be a lot more accurate.

Secondly, the base of the spring and the bottom-most part of the coil seem to be sort of forced together in an awkward way—more specifically, the outlines sort of run into each other in a way that doesn't make a lot of sense. If you look at the original sprite, the coil stretches nearly to the right-most end of the "base," and the outlines of the coils do not collide. This needs to be fixed so everything comes together smoothly.

This is turning out fantastic, though! Cool to see everyone working together.

While I think the metal at the right-most area of the spring could be a bit darker, that's pretty much perfect! Definitely a keeper.

Btw Sciz, you forgot to flip the springer, the lightning should be on the right side, not the left.

 

So it is, I'd overlooked that. Just grabbed a bright shade of yellow and ran with it. ;p
