That's not a justifiable reason to make a new character or use an existing one as a 4th playable character.
How would Fang play, he's not really like Sonic, Tails, or Knuckles. He's not really their height, and he can't really run very fast. Would he be some kind of gun shooting game or something?
Considering that every Genesis Sonic game added at least one new character each game, with this game being a 'Sonic 4' of sorts, I think it's definitely a justifiable reason. There hasn't really been a game where Fang was playable before besides Sonic the Fighters, but I think that Fang definitely has potential to play like a slower Sonic but with a gun mechanic added on, just like Tails was like Sonic but slower and can fly, and like Knuckles was like Sonic but slower and can glide and climb walls. Perhaps take out the spin-dash and spin jump in favor of his pop-gun and higher jumping, even. On second thought, adding in a gun would kind of take away the one-button nature of the classic games. Even Tails and Knuckles with their special abilities only used one button. I guess it isn't necessary then.
Uh, explanations please? That's pretty much like saying Metal Sonic should be playable or Tails should be unplayable just 'cause. First off, I can't see how Fang could possibly be a terrible idea. If you can think of why he is, please let me know! And as for Amy, again, she'd have to have some sort of unique ability apart from Sonic/Tails/Knuckles that could be utilized anywhere. In this case I completely agree with Tweaker. "I think it's better for us to revive abandoned character designs over making our own, for both the sake of familiarity and to avoid overstepping our boundaries." I agree, if this project is ever completed it'd give everyone something to look forward to in it's expansion/sequel.
Ah snap, that was going to be my suggestion. But I'll give my line of reasoning why. Playable Metal Sonic. Tons of potential for character movesets. He can shoot a giant laser out of his torso, make spikes fly out in eight directions when he jumps (Mecha Sonic's move from Sonic 2), and turn into a yellow fireball when he gains enough speed. There's also the Black Shield, but at this point that would require too many buttons.
No playable Fang. A definite Fang mini boss, probably Act 1 or perhaps random areas in the zones. I'd like to see his gun being used too. I am supporting the 4th playable characyer character idea if all agrees and who better than Amy Rose!
Uhh.. she has a weapon? Should could be given her abilty to thrust herself into the air by hitting the ground with her hammer at speed like in SA1. I honestly don't like the idea of Fang being playable. It was the hero's that were playable back then, not the villians. But yeah, Amy has my full support if you add a fourth character.
I guess you're right. If that's the case, Metal Sonic probably wouldn't work either. The only alternative I can think of is Espio. Camouflage and the ability to walk on ceilings could make for some interesting level design choices. I wouldn't mind Amy, but with Espio you can be really creative with the level design and object placement. Of course, that's provided we even go with a fourth character.
I would quite like to see Fang as Knuckles was in S&K but more involved, setting of traps making apperances at the end of the levels and maybe a boss at the end game somewhere. As for a 4th playable character, as nice as it would be its just not going to work out. Designing and editing art is relativly simple within a community project but to create a new character or picking just one existing one could only ever be achived if one or two people were allowed to pick and thats not in the spirit of a community project. The fact of the matter is that its unlikely that people are ever going to agree on the same one, even putting it to the vote would cause too much of a rift within the project and thats the reason why I think its not a good idea.
Wait, if that Master Emerald was fake, why did the island drop when Fang stole it? Er -- I mean, top notch! A planet buster attached to the bottom of Angel Island. Who'da thunk.
He moved it, then Robotnik's robots, after invading the island, moved it back. Nack merely used the fake one to get Knuckles off the island. Plot hole, filled. Also, before anyone ask, battleship was under the sea. After Angel Island fell, they docked it with Angel Island, FULL SPEED! FULL POWER! GET A LOAD OF THIS! It's all in the instruction manual, you should all read it.
Playable Fang? I'm indifferent to it, but if it happens... I would like to point out that giving a playable Fang a gun wouldn't work because Tails and Knuckles' abilities revolve around locomotion. That is why I suggest a grappling gun. Fires straight in a given direction, then pulls Fang to the surfaces it hits. Look up and fire to fire up. One button, no aiming required.
Grappling gun? I actually like that idea. Basically, it's Ristar, but with a Weasel rather than a Star/Deity. Obviously he'll need to use it to swing with to gain momentum to go places. He should have a bit of a gimped jump, though not as much as Knuckles.
<!--quoteo(post=264191:date=Jan 6 2009, 11:44 PM:name=Chimpo)--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Chimpo @ Jan 6 2009, 11:44 PM) [/quote] Im all for the first 3 pictures in that story, in fact im sure its been mentioned before that Nack/Fang should simply be a paid accomplice for Robotnick. Not that im saying you copied the idea it just seems like as soon as someone posts a simple story such as your own other people feel the need to needlessly elaborate upon it and the decent idea gets lost in a sea of posts I vote for the simple story that Robotnick has simply employed Nack/Fang to even the odds. If we can agree on that at as a community then its a step in the right direction, we don't have to agree to what they're actually up too till a later stage of development when we start thinking about the final levels.
What about Knuckles? He worked for Robotnik all the way to Hidden Palace. I don't see a reason story-wise for Amy to be playable, though. So did I, I just thought it was already agreed upon that we wouldn't have him playable. I would love to see him playable, as I have said before. Lorenzen's Soil?
He was tricked into doing that. Knuckles is very gullible remember. So technically, he wasn't a 'bad' guy.
Holy crap! If Nack's wire-gun was also his attack then he would play like a Belmont. A Sonic/Castlevania/Bionic Commando character? FFFFFFF nerdgasim. But in all seriousness, that sounds like a Nack solo game more than him just being a playable character. The story seems to keep leaning towards the complex plot twisty side of things though. Keep in mind the stories from the games were told pantomime, with just the back story in the manuals. Simple seems (to me at least) to be the way to go. Maybe the thing that triggers the action is this: Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are on the beach relaxing or whatever. We see Angel Island in the distance. As far as they know Robotnik is defeated and quite a while has passed, so Knux feels safe leaving the Island (but keeping it in view) Just then, Robotnik swoops in AND FREAKING TOWS THE ISLAND AWAY HOLY CRAP! Carmen Sandiego style: just carts off with it! Well now they've got an adventure on their hands. So they follow after in the direction they saw Robotnik take off. The main action isn't taking place on Angel Island, that way the Zones can be cities and other things that otherwise would not seem fitting...
