This isn't the best time for this, but oh well... I hope that we plan on having Knuckles as a playable character. I wasn't sure what to do with his mouth, since it's only one pixel. I should probably make it a little bigger. Also, I don't know whether or not I should add the little lego-y things to his shoes, since they're not visible in the sprite. However, since we decided to add the buckle to Sonic's shoe, I should probably include them. Corrections and critiques would be greatly appreciated. Edit: Whoops, I forgot to add the shiny bits to the red parts of his shoes.
For the record, I think that's a fine start to Knuckles, but he should not be a priority right now. Since he is in the game via the Lock-On capability it is something to consider for later. The priorities now should be Sonic sprites and anything pertaining to Emerald Hill.
Well, I already procrastinated enough on my school work while working on Knuckles, so once the end of this semester arrives (which is in less than a week), I'll get to work on some badniks.
How far into the Sonic animation have we got? Once all 8 frames are together I'd love to make an animated gif of them.
I think Vincent is working on Frame 5 at the moment, but he didn't update us on that today. If there's one thing we're doing right at the moment, it's Sonic's frames.
First of all a small update. I already finished the 6th frame and now working on the 7th. (You think I relax on the only free day of my week? 'Course not!) Progressing has been so much quicker thanks to tile reuse and a better experience with Illustrator. A small teaser: About new ideas(which are always welcome!) to implement: S2HD will consider any useful addition AFTER we have a working basis. Sonic 2 HD is not coming out like a fan-game, it'll be like playing back into '92 BUT with 2008's graphics and music. I'd like to remark S2HD Staff is assembling right now, so please consider the signature below as an updated Staff list. Having a full-time job to deal with, I haven't much time available except drawing characters. However If Athelstone and Bluestreak help me, then I'll be happy to coordinate S2HD Staff's work with them and start writing the project's basis.

Seeing all of those together is amazing! They're pretty much perfect HD replicas of the originals. Hah, you sir are a legend. <3 Keep up the good work!
It's somewhat unrevelant, but will this be using the classic rotation style, or the 360 engine? Meh, I need my printer working so I can do my part in this.
I'd say use a 360 degree rotation engine, but it should be done using the 8-directional frames and interpolating between them, so it looks like a smooth transition between them. ie. 337.5 to 22.5 degrees rotate using 0 degree frames, 22.5 to 67.5 degrees rotate using 45 degree frames, etc. Or, do like Retro Sonic and do both. lol preferences menu and such. :U
Heh, humour is exactly what I need while I'm at work =P I think Cinossu has the right idea here, using the 8 frames & interpolating etc. The past few weeks, I've been working with vector art (it's my job), so I may start chipping in with this project.

His arm is kind of strange, too. It's too thin compared to his hand, and seems to be coming from his head rather than his shoulder.

[/quote] Changes I made: - He's now looking forward, not at the sky. - Moved his mouth down and made his scowl a bit bigger (in keeping with official art). - Added the little lego knobs/buttons on his buckles (in keeping with official art). - Added shoe shine.
Knuckles appears to be smiling in the sprites, rather than scowling. It might be better to update your version to suit, since the scowl looks quite ugly.
I don't see how you can tell he's smiling in the Genesis sprites considering his mouth is made up of one entire pixel (or three, if you want to really get creative).
