Sonic 3 has a different extra life tune to S&K/S3K/S3D.

Yep, I was wrong! That puts Drossin down to just one track for Sonic 3. Hopefully I am not wrong on that :P

Ah, I see. Thanks for the insight into MJ's thought processes about being credited. Nice work getting it quickly cited on the Wikipedia article, too.

To avoid making a new thread that I've been meaning to make...By chance, have VGMs been ripped for all the new protos dumped (different from the original S2 beta)? I have no idea how rigorous the process is compared to dumping PSF or even GYM, so apologies if this question seems a little needy or assuming. (And I've been getting a blank Music page on the main site for the last couple days.)

No, Senoue did that song. Drossin did nothing in Sonic 3.

    MIDI-to-SMPS-conversions, mostly. Takin' requests, too.
Then why was he specially thanked for in the Sonic 3 Credits at all?

You must have a different revision than mine because the very next credit is Drossin.

To celebrate this awesome, Yuzoboy remixed SIM with the Sonic 3 Credits, then played it to footage of him playing Genocide City and HPZ in the Sonic 2 Beta. To celebrate this event, I'm sharing it here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7veoCm82P7w + - Inb4trash'd

That video was fucking horrible for too many reasons. And I usually have no problem with Yuzoboy's creations. Who's uncredited hack was that anyway?

Now we have both been wrong!

Time to set things right once and for all {prioritized after Sonic 3D Blast's credited music, then Jun Senoue's interview (he is kinda trustworthy), then Howard Drossin's interview (never played the game), then Milpo's interview (only did one music)}:

    Sonic 3 Music credits:

Continue "higher tempo" - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)

    Act Complete - Jun Senoue
    Game Over - Jun Senoue

Bonus "Gumball Machine" - Jun Senoue
Bonus "Slot Machine" - Jun Senoue
Bonus "Glowing Spheres" - Jun Senoue

    Special Stage - Milpo

Sonic 3 & Knuckles Music credits:

Continue - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)
Extra Life - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)

Title Screen - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)
Knuckles Theme - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)

    Act Complete - Jun Senoue
    Game Over - Jun Senoue

Bonus "Gumball Machine" - Jun Senoue
Bonus "Slot Machine" - Jun Senoue
Bonus "Glowing Spheres" - Jun Senoue

    Special Stage - Milpo

    Sonic 3D Blast credits:

Continue - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)
Extra Life - Howard Drossin (Masaru Setsumaru)

    Act Complete - Jun Senoue
    Game Over - Jun Senoue

Shall forever be written in stone! /LOst

All other music in Sonic 3/Sonic & Knuckles are extremely hard to catagorize, even following SN76489 patterns. For example it would be possible to single out Tetsuyuki Maeda's music by just listening to the SN76489 patterns, as they are very distinct in Sonic 3D Blast, BUT there are nothing even close for Sonic 3 & Knuckles's soundtrack!

Grouping music after certain styles can give away composers, but this is how far I am willing to go:

    [Group 1]
    Endless Mine
    Marble Garden
    Mushroom Hill

    [Group 2]
    Desert Palace
    Chrome Gadget

Group 1 is just arranged poorly (midi converted without love)

Group 2 share the same happy tune at the very end indicating a relationship.

Also note that group 2 together with Hydrocity act 1 and act 2 are the most complex music in the game from a music composer's point a view.

And now, so that I am not off topic: MJ rules!!1!

Um... Senoue outright testified that he only did the special stage music in Sonic 3. Where are you getting these credits from?

Although I think it's a good idea to "group" certain songs together depending on their interpreted style, how do we agree on such terms? (But I found exactly what you were talking about with Desert Palace and Chrome Gadget...awesome find! I never noticed!).

Theoretically I think that Hydrocity, Marble Garden, Flying Battery belong in the same group...mainly because I feel it follows MJ's style, along with Carnival Night (for obvious reasons), Ice Cap, and Launch Base...but with those three within their own subgroup as well.

Normal Sonic 3 in this case. I do remember his name being in S3Ks too, obviously.
