Sonic Frontiers has just won the coveted “Excellence Award” in the “Annual Works” category at the Tokyo Game Show “Japan Game Awards” ceremony.
It should be noted that it won alongside nine other games, including Pokemon melt-your-switch and the terf game. So it's not exactly the most astonishing win in the history of the series.
I do wonder if there's more to the update than just the things we know about the bosses, story and other playable characters. It feels like those would be enough on their own, but the previous updates did have more than originally promised, and I am still remembering Kishimoto's "we'll show you in Update 3" tweet when people asked him about rolling physics. Seems too good to be true, but who knows?
All those games, excluding Hogwarts and maybe Pokemon, are worth giving a award to, so it is quite a win, especially when other Sonic games didn't get chosen IIRC. For Japan to give this much attention to a Sonic game at all means a lot. I wonder how well it did in Japan overall.
