I mean... It's pretty simple to break all the bumpers. You just push to the side once and let the game do the rest. I bet a lot of people did this without even trying, especially when they were waiting for a shield that just never seemed to show up.

There's something interesting about that Bonus Stage actually (Well, I find it interesting at least.):

The original Sonic 3 & Knuckles has an unused S gumball, the top of which can be partially seen in the gumball machine during normal gameplay, the rest of it obfuscated by other gumballs. According to a screenshot from this SEGA Asia Sonic Origins website page, that S gumball has been kept in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. I'm guesstimating that it'll remain unused, but it would be really cool if you could fully drain the machine, then vend the S gumball, and get something special by them finally incorporating the S gumball into gameplay somehow.

I'm certain a reinstated S Ball would do nothing more than give you 50 rings

I think someone lied to you haha. Someone lied to me and told me that landing 8 hits on the firebomber in AIZ1 would destroy it, and you could play the rest of the zone unburnt.

I kid y'all not, a few years ago when my team and I were at PAX a guy came up to our booth and we got to taking about classic Sonic games and he was 1000% convinced this was real, and I told him he could have a Steam key of our game for free if he could show me evidence. He tried to pass off a screenshot of AI as proof but it was obvious that it was just Act 1 before the firebomber. I pointed him to Retro's wiki for further proof it was not possible.

It does make me wonder if it's possible to build a new AI layout via hacking that does not swap its tileset.

Which is less than standard ring drops can give you

at least the ones in the Orb game; I’m not actually sure if the Gashapon game increases their value the same way

I swear I have a memory as a kid of doing this, but I’ve also pretty much come to terms with my brain just fabricating it or mixing it up with something else.

  10. There is also the unused Super Sonic slot sprite in the Slot Machine bonus.

Pre-ordered, ready to relive it all!

Something that probably was/will never be considered for Sonic 2 (or missions) in Sonic Origins:

An option the use the music from the Simon Wai prototype.

Prototype Casino Night Zone theme would fit well for act 2.

How about the prototype boss theme for at least Silver Sonic?

I find it really depressing that a lot of Sonic games have been delisted on Steam. Like the Sonic CD version on Steam is not going to be the same experience as Classic or Anniversary mode in Sonic Origins. So from a game preservation standpoint where I like that different versions of the same game have different features, it bothers me Sega removed so many games from the Steam platform.

  14. Not to mention that owners of the old versions didn't get free copies of Origins? Or even a discount??

Slice of life visual novel, coming soon...?
Delisting a game doesn't make it disappear from your steam library tho. As long as you bought it, you can still play and download it no problem.

Honestly, so long as Origins works fine despite the Denuvo, it'll probably be my preferred option of playing CD compared to the BlitWorks port. The rest of the versions were ROMs that people already uploaded to the Steam Workshop in so many other ways to counteract on the Mega Drive Classics collection, and they're easy to yar-har either way. I get why some are annoyed since it was really arbitrary and overall came up to half the price of Origins, but it's not all terrible.

The Decompilations will probably always get fandom support even if they get DMCA'd on the sheer principle that people would prefer to keep some power in the fan's hands. So really, the only major problem going forwards is the loss of a rather infamously awkward PC port, and how kids will know to look up specific ways of getting old ROMs of the games in the years to come.

Most other delisted versions were from like, the Xbox 360 / Playstation 3 era that were backwards compatible on the Xbox side but really not the best way to play some of those things nowadays either, and the 3D versions of Sonic on the 3DS are going the way of the dodo by system circumstances out of people's control while the Switch Sega Ages versions (and original ROMs besides 3&K) will still be there.

Biggest kick in the junk is the Origins price tag overall, and in time that will die down like every Sonic game on Steam before it.

  17. I’ve never preordered a digital game, so can someone tell me if it’ll be possible to play at 12:01am on Thursday? I’m on PS4 if that makes a difference.

What version are people thinking of picking up? I'm probably getting on Switch.

My girlfriend has a Switch, so I might get that version once the price decreases a bit, preferably if they'll pull a physical version.

Switch here. I don't usually buy digital-only games if I can help it, but I've made an exception here - if a physical release does materialise down the line I'll grumble that I jumped the gun and then pick it up to support it. Hopefully if that does happen they'll at least do some DLC and bundle it in like they did with Mania - Sonic Origins Plus, anyone?

Eventually I'll probably get PC version too for the mod potential, but only once the price comes down, Denuvo is removed, and I actually have time for PC gaming again.

I'd also be interested to know this for my platform of choice - as mentioned, I don't usually buy digital much if I can help it, so this is my first digital pre-order on Switch.
