I just went on your website, and it flagged up as a reported attack page. Considering all the hoo-haa about malicious code in S2HD, you should probably sort that out.

I experienced the same thing, but when you eventually dismiss all the warnings, the site doesn't exist/is parked.

Few week ago or so the forum had a random redirection to porn sites( didn't happen to most users like me), but its gone now. Google has detected the redirection while it was happening and their records are not updated. Its nothing to worry about :/

dsrb does http://www.sonic3hd.com/forum/index.php work for you ?
When I tell Chrome to "proceed anyway" it goes like its supposed to.

Oh—both the root and the forum work now. I guess either I pressed something wrong/stupid before, or I'm misremembering. Thanks anyway! I'm having a browse now.

Fair enough. What's happening with this project at the moment, anyway? Any progress?

Yeah we've done a lot, but we still need terrain and background artists to make the next release.

    I DONE MAKED GAMES.
What the fuck is this 'our other project' thing all about? I'd be more interested in seeing any real progress on a Sonic 1 HD. Do tell. ;)

    EDIT
No, wait. It's looking sinfully ugly, forget I said anything. :(

I think I was stupid getting myself involved with all of these, my heart is with my own (this would be 3 HD projects now!), but I don't want to say 'screw you' to these ones, so I'm going to stick with them, but only doing the minimum I am required to do.

Anyway, some bloody good stuff is coming out of them from the more dedicated!

So not only is there a Sonic 3 HD, which is a huge waste of resources for everyone involved since you're remaking a game (or two games, actually) that everyone was fine with, you fellas have another HD project for Sonic 1. Did you not learn anything from the progress of the S2HD project? Fuck this, man, I don't know why anyone would work with you two. You're stretching yourselves thin and you should be investing the help of those who volunteer to do something original. This is ridiculous, what you're doing.

Honestly, what gives? Do you not think you could helm an original project? Like you're afraid you couldn't design some decent layouts that flow or you couldn't get the game to look as nice otherwise? Because believe me, there are artists here who know their stuff, I'm one of them. And there are also people here who have done hacks who also know their stuff on level layouts. There are resources here, and yes, while you're not going to get a community project like the failed Sonic Retro project a little while back, I'm sure you'd attract more help if it didn't look like you were trying to muss up something that isn't broken. Whatever resources you have now, people and all, really use them. Any chimp can add gradients and spruce up some level art to look 2.0.

We are doing this because we want to. We did not assemble a team and then direct them to spend time on the remake. In fact, it was the complete opposite, people are coming to join the team because it is a Sonic 3 remake. No one is being forced or paid to do this. What is to learn "from the progress of the S2HD project" ? What "same" mistakes are we doing? Explain to me if a team cannot remake a game that is already there, how are they going to make a completely new game ?
If you want to help that much to a new game, there is Sonica's take on Sonic 4(and there are other creative projects, you know that). If you do not want to help even on that game, then what is the problem?

I don't think S3HD has nothing to do with Sonic 2 HD. Basically it's an open project, everyone can join the forums and contribute with suggestions, art or everything that may come to mind.

Also what's wrong in doing a remake of a great (to me, the best) Sonic game? If you want to do something original, you can join other projects, but, for a lot of people, including me, it would be great to see how this game may look with modern graphics. From the S2HD story, I only learned that big and ambitious projects may not get finished, for various reasons, but, for now this is not the case of S3HD. The progress is slow, but only because there's a lot to do, and of course every contributor has their own life before this project. Anyway, from what I've seen, the core team is made of skilled and motivated people, and I actually think that something good will come out in the end.

Don't worry about them. If they get somewhere with this project, then wonderful. If not, then whatever, forget about it and move on. It is what it is. Let it be.

    Staying sane.
You have my best wishes for this project! Just be careful on what you're dealing with here and don't bite off more than you can chew on these.

Also *oh noes OPINIONS* The concept art for the Sonic 1 HD project is looking slightly ugly and hazy like a mirage.

*USELESS COACHING TOO* Put yourself first and not the project. A masterpiece takes time, just at least not so much time that the final product took 14 years to finish and ends up like Duke Nukem Forever.

    Thanks.
I'd like to shed some light on the Sonic 1 HD issue - the guys who started it were just members on the Sonic 3 HD forum too, and not actual programmers/artists/musicians. 2 of our artists were helping there for a while, but ultimately decided it is best to focus their time on S3HD exclusively. You can see our names in that forum because we were just curious what is happening and maybe offer advice, but nothing more until our current project is complete.

There's nothing wrong with them trying to remake the good past sonic games and there's no reason they can't make a new sonic game based off the things they learned. I have some suggestions and some pictures, but I can't find something to clip PNGs to this post...

I think Sonic 1 HD Sonic should look alot like generations but cartoony. (Can't see his mouth when he's standing.)
Sonic 2 HD should look much like the Alpha except without those shadows that would make Mystic Cave and Hill Top Zone awkward... (Smiling when standing)
Sonic 3 HD should be some hybrid between cartoony and 3D Graphics. (indifferent when standing.) Even the badniks in the manual are 3D and aren't concept art anymore.
Sonic 4 SHOULD have been like a full 3D Classic Sonic with green eyes, soles on his shoes, and physics and level design based off of and improved from Sonic 3 and Knuckles. They had the right idea making Metal Sonic Playable though.

When sonic hits a speed shoe box, I think his shoes should glow light orange and red, like Super Sonic glows yellow and white. Also, his waiting animation should go from him with his hands on his hips tapping his foot, to him crossing his arms and tapping his foot like 10 times a second.

All of these projects could use an extra 3D Option kind of like CHEESE QUEST 3D off of Foster's home for imaginary friends. All you'd have to do is show the sprites' red and cyan versions next to each other based on the depth. Maybe you could also do this by separating a sprite's RGB values. The hardest part would be making some of the background parts 3D. Make it so the HUD gets no 3D affect. Generations did this and it's like your looking at the game through glass and it makes it even more awesome somehow. When you hit the boss, make the HUD flash.

One thing about S2HD is it din't feel as fast. This is because the screen size is different. Instead of 2 screens a second, he runs about 1 screen a second. You could have an option to keep the window the same relative size/fill in the extra space with black, but you could also have an option where Sonic's top speed and acceleration are doubled!

I don't know if you're planning to make your own S2HD, but I'd want to see the beginning look similar to the game starting. Instead of the black screen with "produced by or under licence from sega enterprises ltd", it could be the disclaimer page. Then it could say Team S3HD if that's your name. Then have the Sonic retro theme play, have a pixely sonic run to the left, showing most of "SONIC RETRO" and a grey master emerald, have sonic run to the right, brake, then jump on the emerald, and make the screen flash so the master emerald turns green, Sonic is in HD now, the Japanese characters appear, and the music starts playing in HD. Then have a black screen that says Sonic and Miles "Tails" Prower in 4x Definition.

Something a little different about Sonic 3 and Knuckles is it has 2 different types of music. There's the original genesis, but then when it was ported to the computer, most of the music was drastically changed. You might want an option to switch between the two music types or even have a hybrid of the two.

I think it would be epic in Sonic 1 HD if when you get a continue, it looks like the original regular waiting animation. It might be hard to do that in Sonic 3 HD. Might have to make a new graphic. I think this affect would work extremely well at the end when the tornado saves sonic, then they fly behind Angel Island. Just change it so it still says SONIC when it's facing the opposite way.

Maybe you could add a hard mode where all the spikes are like Sonic 1, the level design is different, Sonic drops a MAX of 16 rings instead of 32, Tails looses 10 or 5 rings every time he's hit, but hidden red star rings give you 10,000 points. Find 5 and the points will give you an extra life. It's not likely, but if Sonic 1-3 HD are released, it would be cool to play through the entire set with whatever character you want. Getting the emeralds would give you ablities. Sonic1=spin dash Sonic2=insta shield Sonic3=super sonic Sonic&Knuckles=hyper sonic SonicCD=ramming into spikes destroys them Since Knuckles already has the glide, maybe it could be replaced with keeping his rings from before a special stage or something...

It would be awesome if all the HD games had that thing in S3&K where when you hold C and press B, the character cycles through all his animations. It would also be nice if you had an option to take a picture with F9 and have the same save a full resolution PNG to a screenshot folder. Make it so you can edit the controls from outside of the game. S2HD got a bad rap for Direct Input, but maybe it's not all bad. Have DI be the default for a controller, but have RAW32 be the default for the keyboard.

Seems like the playable character list from most to least importance is Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Metal Sonic, and Emerl. :P Ya gotta admit, Metal rocks and Emerl doesn't get enough love.

Some of these ideas are way out there, but sometimes ya gotta think ahead. I don't want this project to crash and burn like S2HD, but I want it to be something worth doing like S2HD. It's a project for the fans, by the fans, of the highest quality possible. I'd want this to be the definitive, no doubt, best version of this game. Make all those graphics (except turning around) smooth. Good luck with your project.

    Flipside,
I can make an anaglyph renderer, but the strain on the eyes is horrible, worse than watching an old 50Hz CRT TV. I'd prefer to do it with separate frames but I don't have the equipment to test.
Onto the screensize- in S3HD the height of the screen is the same as in the original, so only the width is lenghtier. I've already included options for 16:10 and 16:9, and plan to include 4:3 also. It'll be bit tricky on the bosses but we'll be fine.

I didn't understand this, but if you mean to include a Sonic 1 animation in S3HD, that is no problem.
The Tornado will always say Sonic the correct way ;)
There is a way to take pictures, its just that it was disabled in the Tech Demo. It spits images in the main game folder with name like "Sonic 3 HD 2012-10-20 00-23-14-37.png"
As for the input, nobody complained with our approach so it'll be like before. I'm adding support for non XInput gamepads too.
Misc playable characters: if you go ahead and do some of them today, then no problem they'll be in the game tomorrow. Just let me know so I can send you the template character images that need to be replaced.

Lanzer, there is some progress, but don't hold your breath for the full game this year.

I realize I'm not addressing all of the questions, but thats what I can say for now.

No I'm here, I just haven't had anything to post in a while.

My opinion, and I believe the leader of S3HD's opinion is indeed to complete S3HD only - but one of our members has decided he will lead a remake of ALL the games. If anything comes up about an S1HD or Sonic Triple Trouble HD or Sonic Chaos HD or any Sonic game under the sun HD - it isn't me and it probably has little to do with what S3HD is doing.
