Reviews Update Looking forward to the Destructoid review. Jim's reviewing it right? He has to be. If so hilarity is imminent. They said the "early hours of October 31" so it should drop soon. Thus far on the review front we have an 8.5 from IGN and an 8.5 from VideoGameszone.de. I just scanned Metacritic and saw that this review has been added: Sonic 2006's average is 46. Unleashed 60. Colors 78. Based on the few reviews we have Generations should average out somewhere between 80 and 85. Currently on 83.3. I would be surprised if it deviates outside of that range to any great degree. This means that (so far) Generations is critically reviewed to the best Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 (89). So the best Sonic game in about ten years. Critically. This only matters of course if you care about the game's critical reception. It's interesting to see the scores climb steadily with every successive game. Sega seem to be upping their game with every new entry in the series.
I wouldn't get too excited about that yet, Gametrailers was pretty rough on Colors last time. Destructoid can go one of two ways, we'll have to see, but we still have some pretty harsh critics coming up. Not that this matters, a good game is a good game regardless of what people say, but it's exciting to see Sonic getting good press again.
Mmk, so Spoiler Crisis City...the Time Eater nearly devoured it...but Sonic brought it back... Does that mean Solaris is back and will inevitably wreck more havoc? Anyway, I'm loving the look of this game from Mitsiru's playthrough. I can't wait to buy it when it comes out...
From what I've heard, it also put a picture from the 3DS version's Casino Night Zone in the review. Awkward...
Spoiler What I think is kinda funny is the achivement "Crisis City restored"... *looks at it* Wait what?
I figure since Eggman went to fix his past defeats, he went through with his Flames of Disaster plan. This way Silver's future still blows and Sonic's still flung into said future with Eggy's machine. But then you'd still need Solaris to begin with...so whatever, fuck it.
Last I checked, they were doing a trade 3, get an extra $10 in credit... Problem is, the games must be either PS3, 360, Wii, DS, 3DS or PSP and be over $2.00 in value... So unless you can switch it up, you won't be getting much for your PS2 games. Sucks... but the PS2 has been out for a while. So one thing I haven't seen mentioned much... Comparing the controls between Unleashed and Colors, how does Generations feel? I loved Unleashed's controls, but there were moments where they slipped up or didn't help accuracy, whereas it was much easier to be accurate in Colors, but they sacrificed some speed (however, you could do goofy awesome stuff like spamming the down-kick by pushing jump/action repeatedly, which I noticed can't be done in the demo). Does it feel a lot better? Demo didn't give a fully different perspective, in my opinion. Felt a lot like Unleashed.
Spoiler Classic Tails doesn't call him Robotnik in the Japanese version. Does anyone know what Classic Eggman is saying in response to Classic Tails in this version?
So, this game does seem pretty wowy. That ripped music selection is damn amazing and some of the tracks I previously disliked I can actually stand now (especially "Ride There Right On." Still think Rush's soundtrack is overall garbage, though). My absolute favorites by far, though, gotta be Modern Chemical Plant and Modern Crisis City as well as every single boss theme <3 Kinda wish there was a bit more to the story than a dozen or so cutscenes and lotsa on-scree text, though, but, eh, there's always a next time. c:
Spoiler Here it is: [quotename='Classic Eggman']Surprised? Would you care to explain Future Eggman, Genius of the Century?
I think the different versions of Stardust Speedway are region-locked, either depending on what version of the game you have or depending on what you set the language as in-game.
Totally false. All regions have the Japanese version by default. The US version is selectable in the "Choose Music" menu, which is mainly used for unlockable bonus tracks on other stages. We actually technically don't know if it's even unlocked by default or not. It is, however, the only Choose Music menu song that is a full new remix and not just a direct rip of the old song.
Nope; for what it's worth I've only ever heard the JP Bad Future remix on videos, and the games have defaulted to English so I can't see any reason to believe they're Japanese-region consoles. It's also obviously not tied to language (which would likely bother the Brits if it were).
Okay, I've never ordered something to be delivered to me on release date, so when does the thing actually ship?
