I'm sure everyone already knows that in S3K, not only do Knuckles' socks change from green to yellow when he appears as an NPC, but his fur also changes to a slightly pinker shade. I always wondered why this was. Today, I think I found out why. In Hidden Palace Zone, it's possible that all three characters and all seven Super Emeralds (plus the Master Emerald) all need to show up at the same time. So how on earth could SEGA fit this into the palette? Simple - the blue and cyan emeralds share colors with Sonic... and the pink emerald shares colors with Knuckles. Therefore, Knuckles can't use his normal shade of red, or the emerald wouldn't look pink enough!
Didn't we already know that? I did. Also, I discovered something in Sonic 4. If you're moving fast enough, you can walk on spikes for a couple frames. It's easy to do in Splash Hill Act 1, where there's a section on the higher path that you can do this with if you jump dash at the right moment.
Pretty sure that they were from a stage in development where Sonic's shoes didn't have the stripes and the ended up overlooking those sprites in the final. Something like that, at least.
But didn't Ohshima say the shoe concept was based on Michael Jackson's shoes with straps? I would then doubt that they ever went through a totally red period. This would be cool to know if it were true, though. Are there any concept pictures of Sonic with stripeless shoes? I can't find any myself, I checked all the the earliest ones (Sonic with "Madonna", etc).
Eh... I'm not sure, I do remember hearing about him having all-red shoes during development at some point. I'll start looking into it.
What about Sonic CD? I'm too lazy to check, since I can't think of any areas where any of the stripeless shoe sprites from Sonic 1 would even be used in CD because of the awesome spinning spring-jump animation, and the lack of places where he might use the Labyrinth Zone "moving through the water tunnels while rotating" sprites (except maybe in Tidal Tempest, but I'm not certain).
There's also a slightly more tame "slap this in your slot for mega pleasure" advert for the 32X but I'm unable to find it at the moment. But yes, they're all real.
On 06 (360 version at least) there's a rather crappy typo on one of the menus. Go to Extras > Theatre Room and then highlight 'Sonic'. At the bottom it says "View Sonic's s story events". Random S.
Not surprising at all, since it's '06 we're talking about here. I've seen typos in almost every game I've played that featured subtitles or text dialogue.
So I was watching the Nostalgia Critic's review of Siskel and Ebert... and in a few of the clips he shows I can hear Casino Night Zone in the background music. I'm not willing to check a bunch of their clips just to confirm if they really do use CNZ for background music, so does anyone know if they actually DO use the song?
