So I was playing Sonic 2 on my iPod the other day, then this happened:

Is this common on the actual hardware, or just an emulation bug?

I've had this happen to me both on actual hardware and on a emulator, so it's a glitch found in Sonic 2.

I've seen it once, maybe twice. Any specific way to trigger it, or is it just random?

Is that the pit of death below? I've had it happen in the same area... Maybe that particular hanger?

Welp, it's about now time for me to stick my thumb into this juicy pie. I had a look around and a search and couldn't find this elsewhere, which tells me it was probably a one-off glitch, but still...

    Knuckles in Sonic 2
After aquiring, from memory, about 115 rings in EHZ Act 1, I triggered the ring of stars above a signpost and then immediately lost my rings to a nearby Coconuts*. I entered the stage, got the emerald, and returned to the stage with 65 rings. This was odd, I thought, because aren't you supposed to re-enter the stage ringless? I carried on and then got skewered by some spikes later on, then died. Freak, rare moment of incompetence, I assure you. :ssh: I then restarted back at the signpost with 68 rings. I haven't played Knuckles in Sonic 2 for years, but I'm sure this isn't supposed to happen.

This was on Sonic Mega Collection Plus, and I had no cheats active. I don't know if this would happen on the cartridge version, so I'll dig out my Genesis and try to replicate it on there with some photos or a recording.

Not in Knuckles in Sonic 2 - you re-enter the stage with however many rings you had when you triggered the starpost.

Then again, you said you had 115 rings when you activated the starpost, so something went wrong there too.

I actually had none going into the special stage because of being hit by Coconuts just after the ring of stars was triggered. I collected over 120 rings form the special stage, so that doesn't add up either.

Maybe it was expecting me to have some rings, rather than 0, and just threw out a random number?

Still, that doesn't explain having rings when restarting from the signpost after losing a life, let alone having a slightly different number. I'll see if I can make it happen again. :)

Sounds like it subtracted the 50 rings for getting to the special stage from your 115 rings, obviously giving you 65. No idea why it would give you rings after you died, though.

I hope this isn't been posted yet. I am in the process of reading all 107 pages and I don't want to forget to say this because I find it to be very interesting.

It seems a lot, of not all or the music from Sonic Adventure originated in Sonic 3D Blast. 3D blast's first level coincides with emerald coast, for instance.

The beginning of "Windy and Ripply ...for Emerald Coast" is the first boss theme, "The Air ...for Windy Valley" is Green Grove Zone Act 1, and "Twinkle Cart ...for Twinkle Park" is Panic Puppet Zone Act 1.

Except for the one right before the boss in Act 3...

There aren't any in SBZ act 2, either. I wonder why they neglected to put them in some of the hardest zones. Might there be a technical reason? I didn't seem to have any issues when I added them in for my hack.
