Spotted a rather strange Korean pirate cart on eBay, Never heard of one like it as it appears the pirates have taken the time to port the Game Gear version of Sonic 2 to the Mega Drive/Genesis.

Quote from the auction says this,

Not an expert but I believe the only way to play SMS/GG games on the MD was to use a power base converter?

Anybody else heard of such a pirate before? researching only shows an SMS version using the same artwork (http://segacollect.proboards.com/thread/62 pics - http://s137.photobucket.com/user/ddevilfingers/media/DSCN4606.jpg.html - http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q212/ddevilfingers/DSCN5172.jpg)

Any information would be appreciated thanks.

If nothing about this is known I did happen to buy it just out off pure interest, hopefully it's something unique I've found.

Saw and bought plenty of these multi-carts when I lived there. Never took the time to see if the versions on there were GameGear or original SMS though. Nice find. Korean stuff is always cool especially the MD games. There are 3 cover variants of Sonic 1, one of which I'm particularly fond of.

Ah, I wasn't sure if it was common or not, haven't really got an interest in pirate stuff but saw this as something unique as it appears to be ported. :P

As for Korean Sonic games in general, I have some stuff but not much sadly. (What I do have :P http://I.imgur.com/wjnEu6x.jpg) Still hunting for the rest though and I think there is possibly 4 versions but I cannot confirm that. I do know there is 2 versions of Sonic & Knuckles and 2 versions of Sonic 3 plus two versions of Dr Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine, One being the Puyo Puyo cart restickered and the other being Mean Bean Machine.

The first Phantasy Star on Mega Drive was just the master system ROM with a connector pin used to signal Master System mode.

It'd be interesting to see if it is the GG version with the expanded colour palette, or just the master system version.

It can't be the GG version without porting the whole game over to work with the MD VDP. SMS games run on the MD without any modification, so it's most likely the SMS version.

The description's wrong - the photo is clearly of the Master System version. Cartridges like these turn up once in a while - cramming three typical SMS games into a MD cartridge takes up less space than three typical Mega Drive games would.

Also this isn't Korean. It'll be from Taiwan or China - the clue is in the text (and the fact most multi-carts originate from that part of the world). Also having both MD and SMS cartridge variants is not unheard of - here's one.

We try to keep track of multi-carts but there are hundreds yet to be documented.
