I've decided that there's really no point to a program that just edits an INI file. Instead, I'm just going to make a wiki page documenting all the settings, which I've started at User:MainMemory/S2LVL INI File Setup.
At the request of FilipinoWaylon26 on SSRG, I've added support for Sonic 2 Nick Arcade. The disassembly is available from here, and the INI files are here.
So, like this? [objects]fmt=[S3K] or this? objects fmt=S3K I'm having a hard time getting this to work.
I've added a new "Draw" item to the tile editor's context menu, which allows you to draw a tile, block or chunk using colors from the current palette: It's rather basic now, but hopefully it'll get better.
Perhaps you misunderstood me... I'm not opposing the request itself, nor am I knocking you for helping anyone... I simply asked why... because why does someone want to edit the Nick Arcade version when there is already support for the FULL version? Am I missing something?
You can export some stuff from the beta, e.g. Wood Zone or the alternate layouts. While I agree there's no much use in this, it's a nice addition.
Ah... didnt think of lost stages... Layouts, meh.... but yea. The pieces of the lost stages seems like a valid reason... the only problem is that in the NA version, the game play is quite wonky.
I'm not really concerned with why people want something in SonLVL, only what they want, and if it's reasonable to implement.
Sorry... I hope I wasn't coming across as rude... I wasn't trying to ginve you a hard time. And I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we recognize that you do your best to give everyone great stuff that they want, and that we greatly appreciate it. I simply asked because I failed to see how it was reasonable to have prototype support, which was just pointed out to me by nineko... once again, wasn't trying to be rude... just slight ignorance on my part.
By "reasonable", I mean not requiring major rewriting for a minor feature. All this was doing was adding a new set of default values, and a slight modification to S1's layout format.
For all three of you that hack S3K or use S3K format layouts, SonLVL now adjusts the maximum allowed width based on what the game will allow (FG, BG and $88 byte header have to fit in $1000 bytes).
Been out of the loop following this, but is there [if not already] a chance for editing level layouts for the game gear, master system Sonic games being added in the future?
As this is a tool designed specifically for the Genesis games, I highly doubt it. Besides, Aspect Edit does pretty much what you're looking for.
I don't know anything about them really, but they would probably require a separate editor. I would be willing to make one if there was sufficient demand and documentation.
And it depends on which 8-bit games you'd want the editor for, Aspect Edit is perfect only if you want to hack Sonic 2, Chaos, or Triple Trouble (they were made by Aspect, hence the name of the editor. :v whereas Sonic 1 was made by Ancient, and built upon a completely different engine. If you'd want to make an editor for Sonic 1, that'd be pretty awesome. And if you have that in mind, you should check out the guide on the wiki.
