Once someone brought up three relatively recent tweets from the official Sonic Twitter account that referenced Sonic 5, I basically though to myself: "If they're really making a Sonic 5 then it better be made by Taxman and Stealth using the Retro engine, otherwise Sega can go fuck themselves". Honestly I thought that would be way too far fetched, but THEY ACTUALLY FUCKING DID IT, those absolute madmen. Sonic Mania is definitely a day one buy for me, no question about that.
I notice that placement error in Sonic 1 every time I play, that's so awesome that they actually addressed it. It's kind of a bummer reading online how many people didn't notice GHZ was entirely redrawn.
To be fair, Taxman released 3 remakes (here's hoping for 4) so it's not a far jump to assume a younger audience who played those remakes would make a similar jump. Incidentally, this looks fantastic. I do have one problem, though: Sonic himself. I'm sorry to say, I wasn't too impressed with some of the sprites, as it looks like all they've done is touch up Sonic 2 sprites in some cases. I hope it's a similar case to Sonic 2 BETA, but even if it's the final set, it's a preorder anyway.
Amazing. Really excited and happy for Taxman and Stealth. Maybe this is related to why Stealth asked us to pause the S3&K campaign? Hope that comes eventually as well. I honestly kind of wanted Sonic Adventure 3, but this is better (especially because of who is involved). And like others have said, this looks like the real Sonic 4.
-Obligatory Sonic 4 comment- In all seriousness, a new 2D Sonic game from Sega With the guys from behind the Sonic mobile ports is fantastic news. The chat won't shut up about SA3 though...
So whos doing the sprite work? I know I've seen that style before in a SAGE fangame demo but can't recall.... EDIT: Holy crap the users in this thread someone screenshot that!!
Welp, gg Sega. Fuck yes. I don't care if Sonic Team doesn't have jack shit at this point, there's a good chance they'll fuck it up anyway, because Sonic Team gonna Sonic Team. I'd love to be wrong, though, but that studio has some bad habits that they keep repeating.
Who called it??? "In Topic: Sonic Social Media Shenanigans (This totally just happened...) Yesterday, 01:55 PM For those whom have not checked the Merchandise thread, clothing brand Dropdead has a line of Sonic products which they are promoting. Decent stuff I must say. They have done an amazing job with their promotional material. I have to wonder if we are getting a retro themed Sonic game, by the sheer quality and vision of this material. This is bullseye exactly what I've been wanting the series to become." All Vector baby....
Hello I can't format right now but here's some temp footage: https://www.instagram.com/p/BIMF7rvjHG3/ https://www.instagram.com/p/BIMF_AaD1GA/ Long videos coming later tonight/early tomorrow. Enjoy.
It looks a bit too similar to the original for it's own good. Maybe add some more shading and details to have it match the rest of the game's art?
