The color scheme on the right actually looks very modern to me, kind of like something you would see in a Hollywood blockbuster. The one on the left seems more "classic" I've never liked the emphasis on harsh blue/white contrast in contemporary visual art. It makes everything look sterile and fake. Still, some more color contrast for the rocks in the left picture would be nice.
Oh okkkk, just one update: This is what I'm using, I've decided. You'll also see some other changes But please don't nitpick it, it isn't finished yet.
Honestly that's the best looking of the lot if you ask me. Looks really good, pops out to great effect, feels more solid and "really there" than pretty much anything in all the classics. Seriously that's what I think of it; it's actually a pretty damn awesome terrain graphic. Despite the solid look it still has the fun simplicity that makes it easy to enjoy, but not so much that it looks like just another fangamer's terrain. Really is great imo.
Just my advice Sonica, I would avoid showing every little WIP that gets made, and instead work on a lot of stuff and then show it in a huge batch of screenshots or mock ups. Mainly because it would help to avoid and minimalism nitpicking. I'm really digging the tiles though, reminds me a mix of Green Hill and Emerald Coast.
Probably a good idea. I have a habbit of showing too much. Yeah. Next graphical update'll be quite bigger
I couldn't even if I desperately wanted to! :v: It's looking great. I agree not to worry too much about feedback about everything. Somewhat despite the title, it's meant to be your imagination of S4, not ours, so whilst it's cool that you ask for opinions on some things, there's definitely a time to start ignoring people and just getting on with your vision. Which tends to be a good one, anyway!
Huh, yeah. I got the same feeling about the tiles. Now we just have to wait for the whale and the hotel in the bg. Looking good, Sonica. The colors are a whole lot better if you ask me (altough I still do prefer the blue-ish color shceme). Keep it up. :3
Lack of updates explanation (if you care) ~ Sorry, I'm pretty busy, and will be for... god knows. But when I get some juicy spare time at last, progress will resume! Though I can't say when that will be.
You have 2 years to complete this project, Sonica. So help me God I will destroy you and everything you've ever loved if it's not fucking done by then!!
Gah... removing evidence of project-jumping >.< I'm so terrible. I mean I'm fine... you saw nothing :v:
Except there's no WELCOME SIGN. FAAAAAAAAAAKE. Seriously, though, that's really cool! You re-created proto-Sonic's "gunslinger" idle pose very well! Take your time with S4. You got life to do
Don't get sidetracked man! Pick a project and stick with it. I fear this might very well become Sonic 4 as I imagined it... because I never imagined it would actually come out. :P
Looks pretty accurate good job Sonica. The stuff on the previous page looks good too. But I dare say your shading is just a bit to rigid. Not everything needs to be shaded with jaggy lines.
Yeah I'm going to redraw most of the stuff I have done already. I want a more geometric feel instead, more like Sonic 1. Though I like the grass I drew.
Had some time so I finalized Sonic, I'm sticking with this. I think its the best hybrid of The 3 game's sprites (Sorry jasonchrist, I mean for the style of this game, not better than yours ;D) The change here is pretty much Sonic's spikes are from Sonic 3. It'd make more sense just to use Sonic 3's sprites completley, but I think they look liek shit.
Haha, I just didn't want it to be toooo Sonic 1-like. Plus it's mainly Sonic's ugly face and body I hate about the Sonic 3 sprite ...and the missing blue. So yeah. What I have I like (I edited the post so it makes more sense :v: )
