Aquatic Marble Zone. At least we can't say this one has been done before. I just remember shitting a brick the very first time I progressed to Marble Garden thinking it came back w/ a vengence. In a sense it did although it didn't feel as much like a morbid cemetery. Instead of out running lava, you had to outrun an earthquake. What's strange is that the Marble Garden object no longer resembles a CD. I'd be happy if the rip cords from act 2 made a return. I'll be depressed if I ever see another Bubbles.
Shhhh!!! Ok, the only new trope I can think of is a modern take on Oil Ocean Zone....Space Junk Zone. How do they come up with this stuff each and every time? It seems like they ran out of ideas around SA2 and have been using real world examples ever since 2006, with the exception of Sonic Colors...but THAT concept goes back to Knuckles Chaotix. For all we know this can even be a different version of Sonic Advance's version of Angel Island Zone in that banner. That one is similar enough to the Marble/Ruins theme too.
They haven't really done much of a polluted/toxic style level... like Toxic Caves... But, can't you see a level that's a giant slimy junkyard? That hasn't really been done before.
People are forgetting Planet Wisp? The water there is clearly not Purple, there are sections where it's blue clear. Just because it isn't "in your face, I just did it for the evilulz" like Satam doesn't mean that the Doctor is respecting the environment either.
Hey if Sonic Colors showed us anything you don't need to make new tropes, just combine tropes into a new trope. Planet Wisp, Tropical Resort, Aquarium Park, Starlight Carnival all take bits from things we've seen before and make them into something new. Planet Wisp is Azure Lake meets Launch Base, Aquarium Park is Chun-nan in a bubble dome, Tropical Resort is a Space Casino, and Starlight Carnival is a Carnival in space. They're pretty damn good though. So if Sonic 4 Ep 2 can make a Marble Garden underwater creative then by all means be my guest.
Yeah. They qualify, though they were more of a VISUAL theme, especially in the backgrounds. And most of them were still mostly metal, which made them more like industrial levels in my personal opinion. I'm not saying "OMG GUYZ! THEYVE NVR DONE TOXIK B4!" I'm more saying that it's an idea that could be played out more. There have been hints at it (purple water in Planet Wisp, Toxic Caves, Sonic CD Bad Futures, Chemical Plant, Oil Ocean) There have been levels of places that Robotnik/Eggman has ruined, but he typically ruins them by BUILDING on them AND polluting them, not just by mucking them up. I'm just saying a level that's in some sort of junkyard or something could be a zone that would be visually new, would make sense in the context of the Sonic world, and maybe could lend to some new gameplay styles/gimmicks. That's all. EDIT: And people have been mentioning SatAM a lot, but just to be clear, I'm not trying to say "The games should be more like SatAM!" While I would like to see some sort of good SatAM-based fan game, it really isn't the right direction for the official Sonic franchise.
They've done sewers before. It's true it's been a long time and it was visually simple, so a new level with it would be very original. Personally, I don't find much fun in a brown level though, especially not in a Sonic game.
Apparently the new badnik is called Spikes. Says Ken Balough on the SEGA forums. I'm not sure what to think. It's suitably generic enough for a classic badnik, but meh.
http://info.sonicretro.org/Spikes So basically that thing isn't a new badnik at all. Not surprising- it was a real headscratcher to see people claiming that the enemy was new, when it was clearly just a slightly redesigned old enemy.
Yep, that was the badnik I was looking for. But after reading the Sega forums a little, I never knew that the Spikes badnik from S1's name was never really official. So S4's Spikes could still be a new bad badnik.
Yea, they might appear the same, but we still don't know what this thing could actually do yet (other than the obvious spiking =P).
Yes it could be something different. But I say Sonic 4-II isn't starting well, and each time they opening their mouth, it's sounding like "rehash". The "Spikes" name made me cringe, of all names they could pick it's the one the Badnik is compared with. It's like we are seeing the release of episode one all over again, what next Ken? It's Sonic 4-II as I imagined it?
Now we're all the wiser, I think now that we will indeed get Episode 2 as we imagined it. Episode 2 as we wanted it? No chance.
Mystery solved, then. Those pillars seen on the website thing would appear to be from Rehash Marble Zone.
