So there's a guy going around on IRC claiming that Chillius03 on YouTube has a VHS containing "prototype" footage of Sonic 1. Green Hill Zone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUKrBN6t83s Labyrinth Zone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QisPpBq2boQ Needless to say, these are both fake. I called him out, but he deleted my comments because he's a typical poser. I'm posting this here so no one else gets duped by this guy into paying for this "tape". (He hasn't asked for money yet, but one of his videos claims that it's worth over $10,000, so I wouldn't put it past him to try it.) EDIT: Surprise - The GHZ video was taken down. I suspect LZ will be next. I already saved them using youtube-dl, so I'll post them again on my webspace later today. EDIT 2: Reuploads by Egor305 Green Hill Zone: https://youtu.be/aHqt2P8GYzM Labyrinth Zone: https://youtu.be/Vpaxnx12_tc
Seriously. I would've found it far more credible without it. Although even so, the timeline doesn't make any sense, not put next to promotional images and magazine screenshots that had final palettes and yet other aspects that predate what's seen in this video.
Tell him we've already got that proto, we got it two weeks ago, dumped it, and it's already available as a ROM to download.
How could anyone find these vids legit especially at a time when Sonic Hacking existed? even a 12 year old can likely tell it's fake. For the lulz perhaps.
It's really funny seeing these amateurs trying to pull off this fake shit considering the wealth of knowledge and evidence Sonic fans have collected over the years. They're not even trying anymore.
Dropped a comment on the Labyrinth video. I wanted to say something clever, but it turned into more of an "I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed." I mean, I love a good hoax. They're fun to figure out/debate over/etc.
Serious question, who is Chillius03 and why is this noteworthy? Not trying to be rude, just misinformed.
I actually hadn't heard of him until today. Basically, what happened is he had one of his friends / cronies go to #SSRG and advertise "OMG MY FRIEND HAS A SONIC 1 BETA ON VHS!" We all called him out, but they kept insisting it was legit. My comments on the YouTube video were deleted, probably because this guy wanted to fool people into thinking he was awesome or something. On the Labyrinth video, he mentions that the VHS is worth "$15,256", so I figured he was going to try to con noobs into sending him money to release the "full" video. Thus, I posted this thread in a public forum and linked it to him in a (deleted) YouTube comment, as well as comments on Egor305's reposts.
+1 I like these kinds of hoaxes because they flare up intrest in finding the real deal. Although if someone is trying to con money out of people that's not cool.
