Sega Amusements CEO Paul Williams confirmed that, while not planned, it was on the radar a little while back. We could potentially be getting it after development is finished on HoTD Scarlet Dawn and Transformers: Shadows Rising
What kind of Outrun wouldn't feature Ferraris Surely the licensing costs aren't THAT awful if it's been done before.
One of the teams in OutRunners is a lesbian couple whose victory sequence is blowing right past a cop blockade. Explosions are involved. I can never hate a game that does something like that.
Shining Force III was about 20 years ago. I dunno about you, but I'd kill for a potential Shining Force IV - especially over another collection for the 50th time. Knowing Sega, it's probably not this at all, and it'll just be some clone of a Tales Of game or something.
http://segafes.sega.jp/stage/ Looks like there's a timetable up. An event called Sonic DJ Live I'll most definitely be going to. MIGHT BE COOL if just to see Ohtani in the flesh for once. Not sure if it will be streamed, nor do I know how the place will be for capturing any film there, but I'll most certainly take a photo or two and try and get as much as I can captured! EDIT: Doing some further reading - Whilst the event itself is free and open to all, it looks like the Sonic DJ event is ticket only, and are distributed out at 7:00AM on the day. I'll no doubt make an attempt to queue early to try and get a ticket but since I'm not playing on home turf, it could get tricky. From my experience, the Akiba locals are pros at queueing up for limited items!
Sega America and Sega Europe are now hyping up the surprise announcement on Twitter: https://twitter.com/SEGA/status/984793532299927553 https://twitter.com/SEGA_Europe/status/984793771870126081 So guess it might actually be something big then. The events will be live streamed, schedule here: https://gematsu.com/2018/04/sega-fes-2018-live-stream-schedule
Yeah just woke up not long ago to the news of both Sega America and Sega Europe teasing some kind of "huge announcement" coming at this event in the early hours of this morning (for those of us in the UK and Europe). So something way bigger than we initially thought. It could be anything from Virtua Fighter 6, to Outrun 3, to Shenmue HD, to a Microsoft partnership, to even a return to hardware (via legacy machines, not a new console) or something else entirely. What strikes me as interesting is that they're hyping this up as "huge" so it has to be at least remotely megaton worthy for them to be so ardently pushing it across all their sub-divisions. I'll edit the thread now to note that a potential megaton announcement is incoming to alert everyone. So consider me hyped for this one. Looking forward to seeing the news drop later. Hope it's something substantial and worth getting excited about. We'll see soon.
It seems very likely that they're planning the Shenmue re-releases announcement for tonight, based on the following tweet: https://twitter.com/SEGA_Europe/status/984810329115938816 It would be rather mean of them to do that if it wasn't related somehow. Also this one: https://twitter.com/KochMediaFR/status/984800481229922310 (Koch Media is the parent company of Deep Silver, who is publishing Shenmue 3) I would not be surprised if they had multiple announcements though. They could have something about Mania Plus, since they didn't show any of the changes at SXSW.
Thanks sonicblur for updating the thread with this. Yeah given the tweets and hints from official sources Shenmue 1 & 2 HD is a very likely possibility. I've been following the craziness on ResetERA and everyone's predicting everything from Dreamcast 2, to Microsoft buying Sega, to ground-up remakes of Shenmue 1 & 2 by Bluepoint and a plethora of other impossible scenarios. Realistic prediction? I'm going to go with a massive launch of Sega Forever on all consoles with the service finally escaping mobile. Honestly hoping for much than that, but I could see Sega thinking that's a "huge" announcement. The announcement should be dropping around ~2 hours from the time of this post. EDIT: Just one thing to note before I forget: this is the president of Sega making the announcement at the opening of the show, specifically talking about "Sega's future". So this might be of some considerable magnitude and potentially massive and thus something beyond game announcements. We'll see soon.
About ~35 minutes away with the stream starting at 2.30am BST. For anyone that wants to see this live the stream is here.
It begins. EDIT: Okay, I can't tell if they're just running ads or announcing Japan-only stuff. EDIT 2: NOW, it begins. With Sonic R music.
Thunder Force IV comes to a "Sega Ages" collection for the Nintendo Switch. EDIT: "Mega Drive Mini" announced. EDIT: Oh my god, Shenmue 1 & 2.
Guess the initial translation of the Sega CEO musing about getting back into the hardware business with a MD mini was correct. When the other translation that interpreted it as Sega Japan just importing the atGames mini console showed up we all wrote it off as itsfookinnothing.jpg lol. Also great to hear Shemnue 1 & 2 are finally getting re-releases. I guess with Sony stepping in to help make the third game with Ys.Net, that by default got them exclusivity dibs for over the first two games as well.
That... was somewhat underwhelming. I'm not sure anything big - bar Shenmue - actually got announced.
