Starlight Carnival always had a Rainbow Road feel to it, so I am glad its there. And well if it wasn't Seaside Hill, it would be Green Hill. Personally I would rather see Angel Island, with it catching fire on the last lap or something but hey, they know best.
I mean, I love everything they've done with this game so far and I'm going to buy it instantly. I'm just so sick of Seaside hill. Sooo sick of it. Sonic Heroes is funny to me because while it has classic environments, it was unfortunately made when Sonic games were in 3D. Because of this, when they remake it, they only try so hard to make it new and unique looking, and thus it's never really all that fresh. I mean, looking at Generations, GHZ, CPZ, and SSZ were great because they basically threw out the old designs, save for the most basic kind of patterns, and reimagined the levels. Even Speed Highway and City Escape were interesting because they were remade in a game that had a much lighter tone to it then those two games did. But Sonic Heroes sits in the middle. Too old to look fantastic like Planet Wisp or Rooftop Run to begin with, but not old enough to have the level thrown out and remade. Sure, they did stuff here and there to make it fresh each time, but IMO it's never enough to separate it from the original drab, dull level.
Also, screenshots of which SEGA claims that they are from the Wii U version: http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=41052396&postcount=200
Maybe they are something to do with the mods/stickers features of the game? Just a guess at this point. Either that or the vehicle is glitching into him XD Update: S0L at the sonic stadium forums implied it has something to do with being electrocuted, though it's hard to tell what he meant.
It gives me serious dark legion vibes...*shudders* I also hate that they chose/reused Seaside Hill. Any other stage from generations would have been better, not to mention all the other interesting levels in the series.
Steve confirmed over on Sonic Stadium that they're not using Seaside Hill's music again. I'm thinking Ocean Palace or maybe a mix of all the "Green Hill" level songs.
S0L confirmed the screenshot shows a graphical bug for the skeleton after being electrocuted, basically a screencap that shouldn't have been publicized.
aww and then we thought it was gonna be cool stuff for Knuckles's hair XD doh! but still looked cool none the less
Yeah, 1) it's not like most Sonic Heroes levels weren't designed like race courses in the first place and 2) YOU COULD JAM TO CAN YOU FEEL THE SUNSHINE WHILE PLAYING IT EDIT: And let's not pretend that most of Starlight Carnival wasn't just as, if not more, linear and race-coursey than anything that Sonic Heroes threw out at you. Pretty, but easily the most boring level to actually play through. My main frustration with the level is that I am tired to /checkerboard hills/ as being Sonic's definitive location in each game. I mean, I understand why, but I can sympathize with the view that these games have too many straight Green Hill clones. Compare it to Emerald Hill or Isolated Island -- you can do interesting things with the concept visually while not making a direct 1:1 rip of Green Hill's art!
But that's the thing, Starlight Carnival is pretty. It's an interesting looking level, and it's just the base for the race track. They can do whatever they want with it to make it more interesting. Seaside hill looks boring to me though. No amount of level design can change that.
My only problem with Seaside Hill is that it was in the first one, so it's pointless. Starlight Carnival will be good if it isn't like Colours, which is a very bland level since the scenery porn is only on the automated rainbow road. The rest of it is inside the ships, but there's nothing inside...
Seaside Hill might be a go-to choice because it nicely encapsulates everything about the generic first Sonic level while also being from a (relatively) modern game. Essentially, Green Hill Zone without the stigma of being Green Hill Zone (even though we could do with a break from both). Well, that and they probably had assets from Heroes lying around before Generations.
S0L is running a couple of polls over at the SEGA forums to see who the most popular rejected Sonic character is. He said that while the results absolutely do not confirm any sort of DLC, it's worth getting your voice in for characters you like. As of posting, the results are: Silver: 39 Nack/Fang: 34 Blaze: 19 Cream: 12 Big: 8 Tikal: 4 Vector: 2
Silver and Fang? VERY GOOD choices, don't know which one I would pick though. Can't believe Silver got this many votes, are people trolling or are fans warming up to the character? Hmm, do people still hate Axl from the Megaman X games for that matter? Anyway, don't know what kind of DLC the game should get, if Toejam and Earl aren't default characters they would have to be a Sega fan's top pick, not sure who I would choose, well other then Axel and Blaze from SOR in a Police Car-thing. For that matter are all the characters from the first game are returning? I hope so because I was so happy to see The Bonaza Bros. in the last game, I'm probably the only one too. Edit: Wait I got a good one for DLC or an unlockable, Classic Sonic in the Car from Sonic Drift, I'd pay to see that.
Makle it free DLC if you own Sonic Generations and that'd be super neat. And man I dunno who I'd like to win, but I'm leaning towards Nack because I always thought he was kinda cool. He's got more of a unique design compared to Silver anyways, and he was in a kart racing game to begin with.
