I call bullshit. Amateurs in their attic can produce great music on equipment that costs barely any money in relative terms. You may well have just posted an example! I bet Tee has less money than Jun, in any case. Not a good way to support your argument.

Budget has no direct relation to quality. It may affect effort, but that's just excusing laziness on the basis that the composer wasn't paid enough, which is a pretty crap line.

Besides, neither budget nor effort need be factors if the composer has simply made bad decisions. Jun wasn't forced to use bad instruments by the inhumane economic climate of the downloadable marketplace. What was your point, again?

Seriously people, just let Sega make the damn game before you people start complaining about it. We're literately 1 month away from this game being launched into the wild on Nvidia devices, so just wait until then to make fun of it! Don't go at it right away and force a delay in the process! Wait it out!

Yep. Amateurs can waste their time as they want. If you pay less, you'll receive less.

I do good design for free, but if I'm being paid, I'll deliver what I receive. And in quality I mean, the songs are short and simple arrangement-wise, I like them though.

Jun's an employee, not a freelancer. I'd be very surprised if he gets paid on a song-by-song or game-by-game basis.

The cost of making music of high quality is not very expensive and doesn't take long to write you know. I've been to studio's that have cost £100 for the day with an engineer so it's should be reasonable price to get let's say sixteen tunes in less than a month. And like what Guesswho said, Jun is an employee so he's gonna get paid regardless.

You know, I really think we need to let SEGA do there own thing. Sonic fans as a whole seem to complain a TON(Though rightfully so, I suppose), and while sometimes ideas do get presented and are actually thought out and well done(Generations being a fine example), alot of the time it's just masses of people yelling and echoing the same old white noise that usually pops out as either dumping on a game that hasn't even been released yet, or once in a while an immature retort that states the opposite and tells the other one to piss off. I'm not saying we can't complain, but I am saying we do it too much for exactly the same stuff.

SEGA already does their own thing. It's not like we're holding them at gunpoint telling them what to do.

About the latest updates and the updated website...First, I have to say I like the music and think it's a huge improvement from the way music was in Episode 1. I mean it sounds close to Episode 1 but it has improvements at least and it's catchy. I was hoping they would just have the music even more close to the Genesis style or even Sonic CD style or to just do away with trying to emulate the Genesis and just use regular nice sounding music that fits those pretty backgrounds. I'm curious as to how the levels music sounds now. As long as nothing is super annoying and cringe worthy like some songs in Episode 1 were (Casino Street) I'll be fine.

I actually like the storyline / plot of what we know of so far; I like how they are linking some stuff from Episode 1 with Episode 2 such as Mad Gear and Lost Labyrinth. I'm actually curious now as to what they are going to be doing with that. My only gripe is in a way it sorta messes with the original Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 storyline / plot because of Episode 1 being a massive rehash fest of levels from those two games. As I've mentioned earlier, I like how they are trying to combine and incorporate story elements from Sonic 2 and Sonic CD into one storyline / plot. I have to say though, I think it was pretty stupid when they said Tails was helping Sonic all along in Episode 1 on the side lines and you just didn't see him around.

I really like how they gave Metal Sonic some backstory and gave some explanation as to what happened to him after his and Sonic's fight on Little planet. It also explains why Eggman used different robotic Sonic's (Mecha Sonic and Mecha Sonic MK2) in Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 and Knuckles instead of Metal Sonic. (I really believe the order for the classic games storyline's are this - Sonic 1, Sonic CD, Sonic 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Knuckles Chaotix, and so forth.) I guess Sonic 4 would be before Chaotix now huh.

I don't know about you guys but I think Little Planet being encased by the Death Egg is really cool. So apparently Episode 2's storyline is what Eggman was really planning all along, this should prove to be interesting. I love how they linked the two world maps together and making it one whole thing. It shows how far off Sonic is from where he last left off in Episode 1 and makes the adventure feel more real. Can't wait for them to add the Oil Ocean / Dust Hill Zone hybrid on the map along with the other unknown zone and also learn their names.

One thing that totally bothers me is the bland level names. "White Park" is so lame. How about "Christmas Carnival?" Or something...White Park is just so...uncreative and boring...Sylvania Castle also doesn't sound very Sonic-ish to me. Sounds like a name of a place in an RPG game or fantasy game but not out of Sonic the Hedgehog. I'm looking forward to seeing updates on those last two levels we don't know as much about yet. Especially that Oil Ocean / Dust Hill Zone hybrid. I don't know why but that one really attracts me.

Aw, nobody cited my version(s). :(

Anyways, one thing that's become a pet peeve of mine lately is the use of the term "soundfont." We really don't know if Jun is using a soundfont, synthesizer, or something completely different. I think we can agree that he's not using real instruments, but he could (hopefully) be using VOPM instead of TUMS.

It doesn't matter whether he's using the Mega Drive soundfont or VOPM, you can get good sounds either way. How accurate they are to the original hardware is of concern only to the spergiest of sperglords. What really matters is whether or not the music is any good, which, by the way, it's not.

Are you referring to Episode 2 specifically? If so, we've pretty much heard all of one song, and it's an improved version from Episode 1. The very small snippets we've heard of anything otherwise at least indicates it will sound better this time.

If you're referring to Episode 1, then, WELP.

If by "improved" you mean "still shit", then yeah, it's greatly improved.

We haven't really heard anything else well enough to have informed opinions, but I would not expect it to be a dramatic step up from Episode I.

We'll have to agree to disagree, then. E1 is one of the few flops when it comes to music in Sonic games, and I'm expecting E2 to address that.

And honestly, I'll be the first to admit that I probably blow the whole perishing felines thing out of proportion. I mean E1's soundtrack is not fantastic by any means, but I don't think it's nearly as bad as most of us (including myself) make it out to be.

I rather like a lot of the music featured in Episode I. All it needed was a better soundfont/whatever, really.

Honestly, the compositions themselves are fine. They sound like the stuff he composed around the Genesis/early dreamcast days (seriously, the S3 bonus games are pretty close)

If remixes of it sound good, then the original composition had to be at least decent.

The problem is it seems like Jun didn't give an actual rats ass when arranging them for the game. Maybe he was forced to arranging them a way he didn't like? I dunno. I mean, when I hear mad gear, I imagine he wanted it to be on guitar, with a synth backing, like Crazy Gadget's song.

That's why in his other arranges of Splash Hill, only the lead is a cat synth. He wanted that synth to evoke nostalgia, but mixed with more modern instruments to give it a "live" feel. I think he may have been told "use only cat synths for more nostalgia" or something

So far with Ep 2, from what I've been able to make out, I just wish they'd use Sonic 3 drums instead of Sonic 2 drums. Sure they can't use the MJ "WHOO!" and the GO and the like, but I'm sure they can use the -actual- drums.

Better instruments, and also longer tracks. They're tiny! That some of the tracks from S1 are also pretty small is not an excuse. Some of these tracks could have gone good places if they'd received a bit of elaboration.
