I can confirm that Wiimotes work with the Android port, using WiimoteIME. Not sure about other bluetooth controllers though. Just a heads up to those of you that have/want this version, but don't want to put up with the touchscreen controls.
Wow, Sonics model quality contrasts against.. geez everything around him. It doesn't look like they improved anything else.
Hmm, if there's anything that makes me want to try this out in particular, it's the fact that the uploader is using the same handset as me which means mine should be able to do this too! :D
Well, if it's any help, my brother got it working on his Desire S running Cyanogenmod 7, but I daresay any rooted device that runs FroYo or above will be able to use the Wiimote IME.
Does anyone have any save games for the Steam version yet? Also I might be imagining things but the physics feel less derpy on the PC than they did on my 360. I find myself playing much the same way I would one of the genesis games, aside from the uncurling I guess, but all in all this isn't that bad. I haven't been to Casino Street yet, I'm sure that will still have the horribly coded I HAVE NO UNDERSTANDING OF THE SONIC ENGINE.
I have a Save with all Stages and Chaos Emeralds unlocked. I assume it's the 'sonic_save.dat' file in the root of the Sonic 4 folder you'd need right?
Odd, I checked to see if was working by removing the file from my folder, running the game (which asked me to start a new game), and then replacing the file, which restored the save in the game for me.
Well, according to the Android Market, It's been updated to version 1.0.1. And here's their 'What's New' page(!) ... And that is all.
Of course it's not a major update. The game came out over a year ago, any release at this point will only get patches to make sure it works as it did on the console version.
The big thing with Ice Cream Sandwich was tablet compatibility - quite possibly it runs better on larger devices now.
Android 2x was the phone only series that included Donut, Eclair, Gingerbread, and a couple other versions. This series was used on some tablets (against Google's wishes) which basically made the tablets look and feel like massive phones. Android 3 was Honeycomb, which Google hacked together in a hurry to compete with the iPad. It has the new tablet UI with split pane views similar to the iPad interface and much better multitasking. In their haste to get it to market, Google broke a lot of the phone stuff, and that's why they took so long to release the source code, they didn't actually finish it really until they finished ICS. Android 4 is Ice Cream Sandwich, and is basically a completed version of Honeycomb with all the phone stuff fully realized and fixed. ICS has both a traditional phone UI for small screens, and the new tablet UI from Honeycomb, and switches UIs automatically based on your screen size. For all intents and purposes, ICS is pretty much Honeycomb final. It's kind of like the difference between Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Yeah I was gonna say I downloaded the game and it didn't run on my Galaxy Nexus (Android 4.0) at all. Guess it works now.
I have a Droid X and I can't get it to work. I guess it's too old now or something, but I've hardly had it 10 months. In hindsight, that $4 would've been better spent at a Waffle House.
Yeah, so apparently there was a Steam update for this today, and it resulted in wiping my save data (completed game, all emeralds). Thanks for nothing SEGA! EDIT: Durr, found solution on Steam forums. Apparently there are two executables now, one for XP and one for Vista/7. Save file needs to be renamed, and configuration program must be run because settings were reset.
