Sonic 2 Prototype References in the Sonic OVA?

This IS a Sonic research community, and I for one love partaking in it.

Anyway, while we are an the subject, I do want to bring to Simon's attention (although I'm sure he doesn't exactly need me to point this out) that the pages on the site are a bit out-of-date, such as the new Hidden Palace and Genocide City developments, as well as any other things I am ommiting.

 

I'm a little late joining this discussion, but yeah, it has nothing to with prototypes at all: the OVA was started in 1997 and finished just in time for Sonic Adventure, and it was generally produced seperate from Sega. If there were important Sega members working on the project, the storyline would have complemented the Sonic Adventure universe.

If anything, I think that the "Sonic Christmas Blast" was supposed to be related to Sonic X-Treme. It was originally titled and advertised as "An X-tremely Sonic Christmas" and the name changed shortly after X-treme's "delay" was announced. The name change obviously reflects Sonic 3D Blast. As for whether or not the content was to change, I'm clueless, but there's always room for speculation.

 

Well, one of the main reasons for the snail discrepancy is, to my knowledge, Genesis limitations. It looks like a head when you think about it.

It looks like it uses the first level pal line, so I can't understand why they didn't color the head using the ring colors. Would have probably made a bit more sense.

I think Local H's suggestion about it being based on concept art from Sonic 3 makes the most sense.
