Zone 06 : Blue Mountain Zone

Current art for Blue Mountain Zone is now available. While I'm on a coffee-drinking binge, I'm getting things moved here as quickly as possible. (Damn, I'm not going to sleep tonight).

 

I love the look of this level, and how well it covers the lava cliche. My only issue is that it lacks color variety—Lava Reef had some orange, some blue, some green, and even darker blue when it came to the second act. The level is taking place in an active volcano, so shouldn't there be some reddish-orange glow from the lava upon the rocks? Just a thought.

 

Throw some auroras and shit in the background to balance that out, add some differently hued rocks in some of the foreground tiles. I'd say this is easily one of the most inventive settings featured in the project. Granted, it's a paradox, but that only makes it better.

 

I don't see any recycled art at all. Do you mind pointing out exactly what is reused, and from what game?

 

He's just saying it LOOKS like recycled art.

 

That first picture is old concept art, IIRC...it should not be considered final. I think it's been changed already anyway.

But one thing though, in all the concept shots, the perspective on the lava is kind of messed up, Sonic is viewed from a right angle, but the lava is at a different angle.

I created most of this artwork over on the old forum. (Including the concept art.)

I am aware some of the older material is directly recylcled from Hidden Palace Zone, but believe me, I am an advocate of 100% original material. If I at first use something recycled I always indtend on it being improved or replaced by something original.

Also, I believe there is much room for improvement. If anyone wants at it, go ahead. I might work on it here and there, but school has been eating up most of my time lately.

 

I see the Ice Cap Zone as well...

Also, most of the "recycled" art is OLD, and was only meant for concept. And if there is anything recycled - I always plan on having it replaced with something original.

I like Blue mountain as it is. Imagine entering the zone thinking it will be green-hill-zone-esque, (except Blue) when all of a sudden you get surrounded by the deadly lava and fireballs.

 

Exactly my thinking.

Kinda like Marble Zone... When I entered the zone for the first time, I was looking forward to seeing lots of, well.. Marble... But it was a dungeon filled with lava!

I chose the name Blue Mountain Zone, and I'd really hate to see it changed. (I'm the "father" of this zone, if you will. )

 

I say keep 'Blue Mountain' but theres more then one way to say 'Blue' and 'Mountain', grab a thesaurus and see what it comes up with.
'Cerulean Peak'? just off the top of my head but you get the idea.
