    I'm sorry, I didn't know about that. I'll correct my post. However, I am 99% sure that both the Sonic 3 and Chaotix Japanese manuals refer the Pillar energy. The remaining 1% is because I'm not sure if it's in the Sonic 3 or in the Sonic & Knuckles manual. Come to think of it, I remember something about a "Pillar Emerald"... *researches once more*

    Ok, looks like you were right in some points. Sorry. It seems that "Pillar" is only another name for the Master Emerald in the japanese manual. And that the rebuild version of Metal-Sonic it is indeed called "Metal-Sonic Kai" (that is the only thing that I did not mention in my resume of the Metal/Mecha Sonic versions). I will be searching for a translated version of the Chaotix japanese manual. Anyway, since you wanted to see the story of Sonic & Knuckles from the japanese manual, here it its, copied from Sonic HQ:

    1. Dr. Eggman's large fortress, the Death Egg, was going to escape into space, but Sonic crashed his 'Egg into the ground again. As he escaped from the falling space station, Sonic was thrown down by the wind and into the "floating island", where huge mushrooms grow luxuriantly inside a deep forest.

    3. The Death Egg's safety was confirmed as it crashed into the large volcano of the "floating island". Sonic was annoyed that the Death Egg had survived and would not feel totally at ease, unless it was completely destroyed. Sonic realizes Dr. Eggman couldn't complete the Death Egg properly due to the amount of time he had to work on it!

    5. Just as Sonic ponders this, Knuckles appears from the door hidden in a thicket, and looks around cautiously. After a quick look, he ventures out and disappears into the wood. Sonic waits for Knuckles to disappear, and then pushes a button to open the door to the room. As he enters the room, Sonic is astounded by a dazzling bright light, that seems to reflect in his eyes. The light came from the special shining "Super Ring".

    9. Sonic couldn't tear his curious eyes away from this shining ring. He thought the ring was wonderful, but the moment he touched it with his hand, Sonic heard a shrill sound and was catapulted across the dimensions.

Sonic found it odd that the solem altar that was built into the large room had not collected dust at all. Just as Sonic looked up at the large altar, he faltered in surprise. In the center of the altar, sat the "Master Emerald", a huge deitied Chaos Emerald.

    15. This island has a massive secret and Sonic bets that Dr. Eggman knows what it is!
    16. But Sonic will have to face Knuckles in a final confrontation in order to get to him!

    Hehe, now that's a corny way of dercribing the first MHZ and HPZ cinemas in S3&K :P

    Oddly enough, instead of Pillar, this transcript refers to it as the Master Emerald. Was it Sonic HQ who changed it or was it like that on the japanese manual? I have to get a hold of that S&K manual and translate for myself.

    EDIT: Checked the S&K Jap manual - it says MAASUTAA EMERAADO. Or something like that. It's Master Emerald alright. I couldn't read "PIIRA" or anything in the Sonic 3 Manual, then again, I know zero Kanji :P

    No, I'm sure that they didn't change the name, because I did read their translation of the Sonic 3 japanese manual and it still named "Pillar". So the Sonic & Knuckles japanese manual calls it "Master Emerald". Probably because we weren't supposed to know the real name of the emerald until Sonic & Knuckles, so it is called "Pillar emerald" or "Pillar energy" in the japanese manual of Sonic 3, and "Mighty Stone" in the US manual.

    I definitely think Mecha Sonic should come back. And as a villian or playable character, not just a cameo like in SA.

    Sonic 2's and Sonic & Knuckles's Sonic robot only has one eye when you look at him from front position. So they are related in that way. If you think you have seen this robot in later games, did you see only one eye?

    Everyone ignores the Metal Sonic designed for Sonic Xtreme. :) That was so cool...looked like it took inspiration from Crashman.

    I'd say Mighty, Ray and Nack. Now there would be a neat Sonic Heroes style team. Nack as Speed, Mighty as Power and Ray as Flight...

    Check out this page of The GHZ's Encyclopedia. Sure, the last robot may look a lot different, but so does Eggman for instance. Note that he has one orange eye, guns in his fingers and is about twice the size of Sonic.

    Call me strange, but I think it'd be kind of cool to see Heavy & Bomb come back. I mean hell, Heavy's indestructable and Bomb can apparently explode multiple times without being hurt. Now all they need is speed. Although, they shouldn't be villians, as they betrayed Eggman in Knuckles Chaotix. I'm not really sure what they'd do in the plot, though.

    Nothing that concerns this place in the least.
    Yeah, but since when could Nack glide, climb, and dig into the ground? They used Rouge, because of the fact that her techniques could rival those of Knuckles'. It was the same case with Sonic and Shadow, and Tails and Robotnik. Personally, I think it would be cool to see Nack as Rouge as rivals in future games, but that's just me.

    Correction: they made Rouge by copying every single one of her techniques from those of Knuckles'. It was the same case with Sonic and Shadow, and in Tails' and Robotnik's case, they just stuck them in robot walkers which are exactly alike.

    I think that heavy and bomb should be brought back because they probably know plenty of embarrassing stuff about Eggman. They could blackmail him into buying them nice things. I think they'ed be the "evil yet good" mafia-type characters.

    True, but there's some small differences. Rouge kicks, rather than punching, and she digs with her feet, rather than her hands.
