An all-new port of Virtua Fighter 5 is on the way with new graphics, music, and netplay. It is being developed by series creator AM2 alongside RGG of Yakuza fame. Currently slated to release on 1 June for PS4 only, as a digital title. I'm personally taking a leap of faith and assuming a PC port will follow, as I would be severely dissapointed if it does not considering how dysfunctional my X360 is... https://www.siliconera.com/virtua-f...is-made-by-ryu-ga-gotoku-studio-and-sega-am2/ Anyone else excited for the return of the original 3D fighter?
Yeah this better be a timed exclusive, that's all I can really say about it right now myself but the prospect is tantalizing.
I'd be less concerned about console exclusivity than the fact it's a PlayStation 4 game being launched six months after the console's successor. Doing things on the cheap is the antithesis of Virtua Fighter.
I see it as something of a practical move, considering the scarcity of PS5's that won't even be resolved til 2022 or later.
Interesting launch tactics here from Sega, making VF a PS4 exclusive and dropping it pretty much out of nowhere around the very same time as the far more highly anticipated and hyped up Guilty Gear Strive, but I'm sure the fans will be pleased, if little else I suspect a 6th edition could actually happen one day, though that may be cautiously optimistic. By the looks of things they seem to be happy doing the bare minimum for the series right now.
Like every launch title and Yakuza: Like a Dragon, also by Ryu ga Gotoku Studio There isn't an excuse for not offering PS5 enhancements - they just don't want to, for whatever reason. It's the same lack of faith that saw Streets of Rage and Panzer Dragoon farmed onto third-party publishers - they're not taking it seriously.
They may want to see if the fanbase is still there and willing to pay before they reach into their wallet to create a more enhanced version for PS5 and whatever else. Not a great excuse, but I wouldn't put it past Sega.
Update to VF5 to bring it to a wider audience Its a PS4 exclusive after their massive success with Yakuza on PC
Played some today thanks to SEGA passing it along. #FreeGame and all. Total VF newbie but it looks great and feels good to play even when I'm getting my ass beat online. No lag in my 4 matches, but I've retreated back into the Arcade mode for now because people are scary. I'm curious to see what seasoned players think as the game starts hitting.
Was there connection or ping indicators for the online? Generally curious if you were far away or pretty close. Wondering how well this holds up at 100-150ms ping.
The netcode seems to be some kind of black magic that is incredibly playable across at least 100ms distances. I think it starts to get a little flaky after that, but unfortunately I'm stuck watching streams right now... I don't have a PS4 at the moment, and am hoping that rumored PC port happens. I genuinely believe that RGG Studio really wants to make VF6 and that if this does well enough, we will see it. You don't just remake a game in an entire other engine for nothing, especially when VF is a very iterative series.
I tried this out with a friend on the East coast and me on the west and overall it was a really enjoyable experience! I hadn’t played VF5 in five years though so it really felt like it was tough to get back into on the other hand.
It is worth mentioning that the game oddly doesn’t support any player invites for rooms and that is just really weird.
What hasn't been reported as much is the Japanese version, known as "Virtua Fighter esports". It connects to an arcade version (or at the very least, the arcade versions connect to each other), and in that environment, you presumably don't want people waiting around. So I was going to come in and point out this "ultimate edition" lacks things from the previous release and has you pay extra for DLC, but now it makes a lot more sense, as you've got people paying a fraction of the cost for entry. So I'm guessing the intention was always to strip it down, but the West gave it a name that suggests the opposite. Well done lads.
Sega putting VF out to die again because there has been a call for all fighting games to have Rollback netcode for a while, but they don't do it for VF but then do this shit. https://twitter.com/gyarugarou/status/1399488956308201474
Played another few hours today, only one momentary blip with connections but otherwise rock solid. Expected much worse so that's neat.
Probably worth bumping this thread to say it looks like a year after launch, Sega are releasing a costume crossover pack with Tekken 7 costumes and music. I might be mistaken, but it looks like we don't have a price yet. Releasing June 1st: Sega Tweet: "The TEKKEN 7 Collaboration Pack is available for Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate Showdown on June 1st, 2022, on PlayStation®4! Customize your fighters with 19 characters costumes, BGM tracks, and more from the TEKKEN 7 series!" Still no PC or Xbox port announcement or anything though, sadly. Was kinda hoping if we had any announcement almost a year after release, it'd be the game releasing on more platforms or the implementation of rollback netcode.
