People didn’t suddenly turn on the game, those issues (minus Penders) were discussed at length even as soon as the rom leaked. I can’t say I “hate” Chronicles but I certainly don’t think highly of it. It looks and feels like a Sonic fan game made by people who weren’t very familiar with the franchise or JRPGs in general. I am genuinely interested in its development though and I’m glad we finely got to hear what the sequel would be like.
I might've come across as harsh in regards to Chronicles earlier. I haven't played it in fifteen years and I'm sure it has its fans. I just remember the ROM leaking and people on Sonic Stadium were gushing praise about it and 1up.com gave it a score equivalent of 9.5. Yes really. Those things influenced my purchase even though I knew the game did not look good. It was a long time ago and I was a lot younger lol. When the game released and it was clear it didn't do well and that another go at a Sonic RPG wasn't happening anytime after, it was pretty disappointing. I'd still love to see an RPG that the series deserves as I know it could totally be done in the right hands.
Our scans of the US Expert Software, Sonic & Knuckles Collection might be incorrect thanks to this noise: You like revisions of re-releases right? We had this marked as a 2000 release, when it's actually from 1999.
I mean, Sonic Chronicles was so generic. Like, it used Sonic X renders as reference for the game art, and the 3D models were plain ugly. Compare it to Sonic Rush models and it's day and night. I might actually replay the game later this year, it's been a while... But I don't really expect much.

Man, SEGA Forever has been killing it recently. It's like they gave the Social Media Content Producer keys to the whole archive and I'm here for it!
Has anyone ever tried putting the snowboard object in turquoise hill and see if it still does anything? Or are the GG games mostly massively unknown
You just fall through the water. I only know this because a guy (seafour) in the Hidden Palace Discord was posting stuff he found in the 8-bit games recently. Here's a link to where he starts talking about them if you want to give it a read. Lots of little tidbits in there. https://discord.com/channels/615298215905853442/642837729322991641/1127727642976731267

From the archives: Even more Blaze The Cat concept art from Sonic Rush! (Ooh, she angry) https://twitter.com/SEGAForever/status/1679524083481071617
My fucking God, that concept art hard goes hard, Blaze's design goes hard (I love how expressive she is).
I scanned the Mega World Summer Special catalog, not sure if there's some interesting info in the CD pages.
So, I found out today that someone on YouTube by the name of Nuclear [NUKELEDGE], as well as other people, have been tracking down the different instruments used in Sonic 4 Episode I and Episode II soundtracks, and Nuclear is gradually recreating individual tracks in Oscilloscope Deconstruction video fashion and uploading them to YouTube. According to one of Nuclear's YouTube comments, the hunt for the instruments used has been ongoing for some years now, but this is the first time I'm actually seeing the instruments specified and hearing them be utilised. https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLwEu5ToUve0Hj02o1w3F5HtYi0_Zowm_p I've gotta be honest, this is giving me a whole new appreciation of Sonic 4's soundtrack, despite its flaws.
Interestingly, the lower-right green text box in the second image talks about the special effects used in the special stages. But it states that rotation, shrinking and expansion are used. Which, correct me if I'm wrong, seem to be in reference to the original special stage that was scrapped. Which no doubt actually used those effects for Sonic travelling between the two rotating mazes (And which I theorize found a use in the final game in DA Garden wherein you can zoom-in, shrink and rotate Little Planet.) Does the final special stage use rotation, shrinking and expansion effects?
I'm in agreement that they are discussing the original "Sonic 1" styled stages here as they were up and running in some form (video demo or build) as far back as some unknown Toy Show in '92 (according to Mazin). In that quote he mentions that you would be going back and forth through both of the mazes. Also, the two sources we have that specifically mention the original Special Stage are both "Summer" related advertising. The only image of that original special stage was sourced from a "1992 Summer Catalog" although considering this new scan is from '93 (with Gunstar Heros [Sept '93] and Model 2's appearance) its definitely a coincidence. By May '93 the new special stages were already being worked on, so it is interesting that a Summer Catalog presumably from a little later would still reference that original special stage. I guess interesting more that in no one let them know that they were changing the game plan. I really hope one day we see even 2 seconds of footage of that illusive special stage.
Well the ground is a rotating tilemap and the UFOs do shrink and expand (albeit through prerendered sprites), so technically yeah?
