https://twitter.com/SonicJPNews/status/1219702126009634816 When Yuji Naka was talking about the 1990 Tokyo Toy Show Sonic demo a couple of weeks back, he said that the screen only moved to the sides. Is this new information?
I think it was assumed. I assumed it, anyway. If you're trying to show off your seven layers of parallax scrolling I would imagine you'd fix the screen vertically so they're always visible.
So, there's a 4chan AMA of someone claiming to be an ex-SEGA employee. I wouldn't pay too much attention to this if it weren't for RafaKnight corroborating some of the member's claims. Paints a picture of a cliquey place with little resources. So every office job I've ever had.
It's an interesting read. Personally I think it's real. Geez. Sega sure does seem like a sad place. The best part: I really want to know what they said now.
That said, I'm not surprised about the "making fun of the fans" thing, an artist I know thinks that people who group together to talk about his work are "superfans" and should be avoided (and occasionally pokes fun at how obsessed they are over new releases, or random details they remember) - he finds them severely unnerving. In a close-knit discord channel I'm in we've totally talked shit about people we've banned before for being The Worst... it's kind of a venting thing that is quickly forgotten after you stop that conversation. My favorite "talk shit about people who find out" moment was when the company I work for was bought out by a competitor..who didn't clear their Slack logs when they invited us in, and within a day or so we had figured that they were...frustrated with how well we had been doing. More personally, I found out the hard way that chances are, if an artist knows about you due to how obsessive/loud/etc you are, they likely hate your fucking guts for it. Very rarely does it turn out that an artist doesn't think you're a creep. Social media tends to give an illusion that you're buddy buddy with people who are actually total strangers, and who chances are, likely know you're total strangers, and that brings in some negative vibes that tends to get brought out with, say, your friends or co-workers.
Meh, isn't RafaKnight salty about Sega 24/7? Just because she says the thread is real doesn't make it real to me.
“This game of tag is boring, I’m outta here!” Just let them do their fucking jobs already, there’s a lot of love coming from the fans. I don’t blame Aaron. He’s been the face of the company for quite some time now. I mean, check it out, there’s even an emoji of his face: This thread is useless.
Aaron's responded to Rafa's accusations. If the mods wanna break this off into a separate topic, feel free. Wasn't expecting a retort.
Rafa has been lying about Sega on multiple occasions because she's salty they stopped working with her (and contrary to what she believes, she's not an employee, she's a contractor) due to her lack of professionnalism, the fact she felt entitled to get any job for herself and the fact she trashed other Sonic co-workers like Nibroc. Plus she spred lies to Ian Flynn haters, who used her words as weapons to trash IDW and the guy. Even Tyson Hesse called her out.
I just checked the listing. They won't ship to the UK. Now potentially I could still try and get it using a middle man service. But... that would be quite expensive since I can't read it myself =/ Sorry for the double post. On mobile and not used to retro yet. Well... I think the simplest reason for this is... People at one point REALLLLLY hated the PS3 and Sony. Think back to 2006 -2008. It wasn't easy being a ps3 owner. Games were not as good as the 360 counterparts. The brand and company were at an all time low. My God people were planning to protest at Sony stores! And in the Sonic community... it was particularly bad. Even during the ps2 days. Sonic on Sony was.. quite badly received. I can remember mentioning on SSMB back in the day that Night of the Werehog was on the JP PSN and it was like talking to a brick wall. But it's not just this. The Japanese PSN has tons of hidden free gems on it from tons of different publishers that never appeared on the western stores. Though this does remind me. The Casino Night DLC for generations isn't on the EU PSN, and I'm willing to bet it's because of an admin error lile the Unleashed DLC was.
Actually, there's a 1.5GB version that's been floating around in English for years now on the internet, it's in 720p but it's not compressed. The JP PSN version is only 727MB, also in 720p. The quality difference is minor though and they both look great! The only problem is that the JP version its colors washed out a bit. EN/JP Of course, the only possible way right now to get a 1080p version is to track down one of those in-company Blu-rays that were given out to people working at SEGA.
The J2ME port of Sonic 2 was split in two parts "Sonic 2 Dash" and "Sonic 2 Crash". They were created using the original sourcecode and feature at least one piece of prototype content: CPz doors feature correct mappings unseen before Taxman's remake! The enemies are labeled using japanese names (the game was ported in UK, I doubt they randomly used JP names for the labels). Ps.: Only the K800i version should be considered, as the others feature new art made for smaller resolutions.
Yep. Just download the k800i version below and rename the JAR to ZIP so you can extract the resources. The animals all stored inside a single PNG file named 'usagi.png' which means rabbit. Sonic 2 Dash Sonic 2 Crash
Thanks! It looks like there are a few missing - Picky (pig) is gone - it was in the original Sonic 2, but assigned to Death Egg Zone, so went unused. The Sky Chase Zone turtle's rarely seen walking sprites are gone. And the mouse from Mystic Cave Zone is missing entirely. So what animals are used in Mystic Cave Zone instead? Interestingly (to me) the Spiker (Tsun-tsun) file is named "y_yado". So I guess it's supposed to be a hermit crab? I never realised that! Pretty abstract. (See also, Spikes.) The Spiny (Lander) file is named "y_tuboh". Anyone know what this could mean? -- By the way, a few years ago someone posted some object label files extracted from the Sonic Gems Collection version of Sonic CD. I believe it was one file per Zone (Act) per time period. But most of the files are long gone now. Does anyone still have these? People were able to find all of the enemies, but I don't think anyone looked for the animals.
y_tuboh "Tubo" Horizontal (Spiny that walks on floors) y_tubov "Tubo Vertical (Spiny that walks on ceilings) Tubo appears to be a short version of "Tubomi" (Tsubomi in Hepburn romanization) which translates to "flower bud". The robot does look like a flower bud that opens and shoots harmful pollen seeds.
