Videos have been added to the "Sonic Unleashed Wii Cutscenes" section
Thanks again for the Sonic CD rips from Gems Collection!
I made .MKVs of the animation which includes multiple audio tracks to select from. If anyone wants them feel free to download:
I was also experimenting on the ending animation by re-implementing the bouncing purple flower, the R2 scene (Jam rip), and personally animating the Amy blinking/skirt moving scene from the SEGA CD version (didn't get a chance to work on the clouds). I'm still experimenting but It's there if people want it.
I should now bump this thread to say that I would really appreciate anybody recording in-game cutscenes from Sonic Unleashed to contribute to it. There's barely any high quality sources available for those--only ones being YouTube--but those aren't ideal because they either have subtitles or the original uploader used some crappy compression method/recording equipment. Cutscenes from the Wii version also aren't ideal because their resolution is tiny, the lighting is all sorts of weird (it's either too dark or too saturated and I Do Not Like It) and the audio is 32000hz. I mean, it's acceptable I guess, but not for a discerning videophile like me.
I would personally prefer cutscenes recorded from the 360 version, at 1080p (more bitrate is always better), 30 FPS exactly and with no subs. I think the 360 version has a more consistent framerate and softer shadows (I think, I only know that the PS3 version's framerate is uncapped to 60 but it dips so frequently it's basically worthless).
I'm not sure how to go about the audio part, but I guess one could record one batch of cutscenes in English audio and another in Japanese audio. It'll probably take twice as much time to do, but that way we can please all crowds.
Sorry. If I was smart I'd go and do this myself, but an Elgato is currently out of my reach.
Well, it certainly has been a while. Time to get things moving again!
I've changed the OP to be easier to read as well as update the links and q&a.
I'll also be starting from the beginning, however, I do intend to upload more frequent so it won't take long to catch up from where we left off.
Right now, I'm focusing on getting all the SU trailers up again.
The wiki takes videos.
Not going to lie - it'll struggle with the big ones right now, but getting the official teasers up there would be a statement of intent.
Would you like me to upload all the trailers not on there yet or just the teasers?
So, how do I go about uploading videos?
I've got the page editing down, just that's the only thing I'm stumped on.
Hmm, doesn't seem to let me upload mp4 files.
Well, better late than never I suppose.
Starting to upload trailers to the wiki, hope I'm doing everything right but please let me know if not.
Anyone still remember this? No?
Yeah, that's understandable...
Well, in honor of Sonic's anniversary coming up, I've got a huge update regarding this project coming soon. Keep an eye out next week.
In the meantime, let me address some stuff. Even though it seems I abandoned this, I have not. I've been working on this project non-stop in silence for the past year.
I realized that I probably shouldn't have said anything before I really had anything substantial to show for it, my bad. I really wanted my next update to be a statement of intent so I've decided to keep quiet until then. So, for anyone who's still interested, thanks for being patient.
Sonic's anniversary is upon us once more, and, to go alongside it,
I have a special update for this project!
Introducing, the Sonic Video Archive website:
It's currently still under construction, however, this is where pretty much everything related to this project is going to end up at once it launches in 2021.
A temporary download folder and a new YouTube channel are also here:
The download folder is where you'll be able to view and download the files until the launch of the website, where they'll be moved to afterward.
The Youtube channel is just a place to view a sample of our library.
Stuff from Sonic Unleashed, Colors, and Generations are already up alongside a few extra things. I'll be constantly updating it though, expect Lost World and Forces stuff pretty soon.
I explain a bit more in the OP, but you are welcome to ask any questions regarding the project, I'd be delighted to explain more.
If you are looking for a specific video you are also welcome to request it, I'll look to see if I have it and will upload it as soon as I can if I do.
It's been a while, but things are finally moving along.
A pretty ambitious project, and the presentation of the website is super nice (what we can see of it right now anyway)
Thanks, I really wanted to make an appealing look for the website. The library aesthetic from Pickle's lab not only looked nice but was a perfect fit for an archive project too.
I should note though that the website is not optimized for mobile yet.
Sonic Lost World videos are currently going up. Videos for Sonic Mania and Forces should follow and be up by next week's end. Afterward, the Sonic Movie is up next on the list.
Reminder: If it's on the YouTube page, then it's available for download in the drive.
I love finding stuff like this:
The harvest today was great!
Most of this find probably won't be up until much much later, but I wanted to share this to give a better picture of the scope of this project.
As I'm wrapping up uploading Forces stuff (for now), let me share a bit of a fun fact.
Did you know that Sonic Forces' name and logo reveal was almost cut from the 2017 SXSW panel?
Due to time constraints, they were debating cutting that section out of the panel and instead reveal it at a later time.
Because of this, two versions of the gameplay footage that was shown off were made; one with the logo and one without.
In the end, they didn't cut it.
The last remnant of this, however, is IGN's version of the gameplay were it simply has the "Join The Resistance" tagline.
Getting ready to upload stuff for the Sonic film sometime soon.
I should warn though, some of the files are very large in size.
Around 7GB per video at worst.
Separate names with a comma.
