The Sonic emulator

The S-moniter can only be accssed via hacking, and does nothing when you break it. L0st, being the hacker he is, was probably using a hacked Sonic 1 ROM when he was testing the emulator.

Wow...this thing is pretty dang cool
It let me see if my lil "test hack" was working or not. (FYI:water in EHZ, no it wasn't working :P)
And lots of other stuffs too!

Inoticed it said sonic 2 beta was sonic 1 jap. version. Is this something you added or did it do that on its own?

Sonic 2 Beta appears to be built from Sonic 1, and the emulator isn't programmed to recognize it, so it sees it as Sonic 1 Japanese version.

I will change the emulator so it will be able to see all Sonic games.

For some reason when I run the emulator, it locks up and I can't use it. I really wanted to try it, too.

I posted this over at Classic, so I figured I'd post it here too.

I've made my screenshots showing how the border works. Oddly enough, I think S2 CPZ2 is the only Sonic zone that uses a non-black color as the backdrop in water levels. Anyway, check this shit out if you're curious, the page will probably load slow, that's what happens with a 16Kbps upload.

Just from these pictures, I determined that the main IRQ that sets up the VDP is at the bottom of the screen, and in CPZ2, the game ALWAYS changes the palette to the water one for a few scanlines, before it's reset back to normal.

I also took a couple of pics of S2 2p mode to show just how unstable the IRQ code is. The top few scanlines of the bottom playfield jitter like hell oO

And to be entirely accurate, the garbage must be replicated in the emulation. Although it's ugly as shit, so it should be an option.

Never mind, I got it to work. It's really good. An idea for the next version, make the stats screen able to appear when Gens is maxed, because I'm used to that.

That's great. I'll consider it a birthday present We're celebrating my birthday tomorrow even though it's really on Christmas Eve. (That's too hectic with Christmas being the next day.)
