The classic Sonic games aren't exactly SOJ's work anymore if the people who made them left the company years ago.
That's good to hear. I had a feeling Naka-san might not be that peeved about it, he sounded more excited than annoyed about the public spread of the Sonic 2 beta for example.
Oh, you're probably right. I just wish it would happen though, since Sonic CD turned out to be a fantastic port on consoles.
I dunno if that applies here though, since the old HPZ wasn't cut for quality, it was cut for time. If it'd been cut because it wasn't good enough, or if it had made it in and StealthTax just redesigned it, that'd be totally different.
You say 'port' in some, you describe 'remaster' in others. I've already ranted about how these aren't technically ports.
To me, whether they're technically considered "remasters" or "enhanced ports" is irrelevant here - the people we're writing to will know what we're referring to regardless of how the games are described. However, having said that - TheKazeblade, for the sake of consistency and to avoid the possibility of anything getting lost in translation, you might want to consider using only one of those two phrases in the letter. I can't see it being a huge problem if you prefer to leave it as it is though, the meaning seems clear enough to me. I think it's a very well written letter It's just the right length, in my opinion, and gets straight to the point without coming across as abrupt. Nice work!
I appreciate that, thanks ! I totally understand where you're coming from. I used the two terms interchangeably, though there's definitely a big difference between the two. That was just laziness on my part. Edited!
Like I said earlier, I've found someone who can translate the letter. I'll send him TheKazeblade's letter, but I doubt he'll be able to translate it as it's too long (I've used translation services in the past and the sentences have to be nice and short, as Japanese has a very different structure from English). I'll probably end up going with the shorter version I posted earlier. Does anyone have any suggestions before I submit it?
Gene just lit the pyre on twitter guys. A letter probably is not the way to go, not yet at least. We should get a nice grassroots base before we push in that direction. I started using the hashtag #BringBackSonic3 on twitter, tagging @SEGA. Maybe we can come up with something catchier, but I couldn't think of anything on the fly. This is it guys. Let's see if we can spread this thing like a wildfire.
How about #FreeSonic3? And yes, everyone start tweeting, posting in Sega Blog comments, forums, ANYWHERE. Lets set Sonic 3 FREE! EDIT: Then again this might send the wrong message so I dunno if it is good...
That's my concern too. #BBS3 or #BringBackSonic3 conveys the message without any confusion and I think it would be simple enough to spread.
#BringBackSonic3 it is, then. I do think that the letter will still be important because, again, the hashtag campaign will probably only go as far as Sega of America. But in terms of getting others into supporting the cause, it's a good idea.
If we're serious about #BringBackSonic3 we have to be sure others in different communities know the same. If any of you happen to take part in any other serious Sonic communities I'd suggest mentioning the hastag to them. Be sure to tag @SEGA_Official in it too. That's just as important. Edit: @SEGA_OFFICIAL are the guys we want. My bad. A minor setback, but I'm sure the initial tweets will be helpful just the same.
I am behind #BringBackSonic3 100%. Oh boy. This will be like those PK Siege / Starman.Net days! EDIT: Shots fired: https://twitter.com/OKeijiDragon/status/529384097269837824
