Make a stack of S&K carts 4 feet high. And top them off with Sonic 3d Blast. The ultimate game! :D

  4. Do these codes actually DO anything?

I think they're the codes to the levels produced when you lock-on those carts.

Lock on Sonic-1 to S&K. The codes pretend that you locked on Sonic 3D Blast, Chaotix, etc. which is only possible through emulation.

Just in time for Easter. Your Easter Egg.

You can't do this in real life because the Genesis won't process roms above a certain size; I've tried locking-on S3D in real life, and it doesn't work. This "error" doesn't happen on emulators such as Gens, so with a lock-on utility (or your own hex editor, whatever) you can play these impossible games.

I thought the Mega Drive could process a game of ANY size, as long as it was a 'power of 2' number in KBytes?

EDIT - hence how you're supposed to pad out homebrew ROMs with Fs to a fixed size...?

The Genesis can't address above 4MB of ROM, just like your vanilla Penitum processor can't address RAM above 4GB. The processor simply doesn't have enough address lines to work with it.

The padding is done, IIRC, to make sure that the ROM doesn't end at an even address, because the m68k processor doesn't like to have instructions begin at odd-numbered addresses.

I remember, "back in the day," my friend bringing his S&K cart over, and locking it onto mine, and then sticking random games on top of that... fun stuff. When you lock on multiple S&K carts, it just plays S&K as if nothing is locked on (assuming no other game is then locked on top of the locked-on S&K cart... [say that 10 times fast]).

And as for these codes... exactly what do they do?

    XD @ Tweaker

Yeah I tried locking Sk with Enternal Champions, and it wouldn't run either.

Yes. As in the following picture. Odd how the stage seems to exist, when it's an "impossible" stage

    SAY...
How do the codes for these levels work anyway? Why does 1572-1055-5192 define this stage and 1291-7181-5142 not define anything?

What do you mean "impossible"? The code just doesn't bring you to a stage, or what?
It wouldn't be that expensive now, the problem would be finding four feet of copies of Sonic & Knuckles. The best I could do was $5.99 US for S&K with a missing lock-on port flap

It's impossible to find this code through normal gameplay (without emulation) since it won't recognize some of these ROMs. (However, these codes should work on the real locked-on Sonic 1.) Fortunately, emulators don't always have this memory restriction, so it's possible to find this level through emulation.

Oh, that's all? I thought you meant that the stage number was invalid or something. BTW, what does the stage number mean, anyway?

Many of my friends still have genesis, and I'm gonna ask them if I can borrow S+K (if they have it) and try that. I'll show you a pic of my Genesis, when I do it.

What memory restriction are you talking about? I got lost somewhere in your post.
