Sonic in Trackmania

So, it's Sonic, with the controls of a car.

Sonic R2! =D

 

That's probably the closest Sonic has come to running with a wheel-like blur to his feet. I love it! :D

I also love that music playing in the video; Rush 'n' Attack was one of my favorite NES games as a kid, and that game had some of the best NES music ever created.

Also, not to sound like a prick, but car addons aren't special. If you want special, then get original cars. Emphasis on cars.

Oh yeah, I've been with TM for a looong time. No bullshit, please.

 

So who's going to recreate most of Windy Valley in Trackmania now? (What a shame that Empire City doesn't look more like that, too. I love TM.)

 

That is win. I enjoy crashing into walls and skidding around corners as Sonic in a car racing game, it got me playing TM again!

This actually has me wanting to redownload Trackmania.
Which one should I get anyway? Nations or United?

 

Nations is freeware, but buy United if you want everything in Nations plus extra environments and Car Models.

That Sonic model should work with Nations as well.

 

Yeah, I just tested it out in Nations. Switched my horn to "You're too slow!" just to complete my ascension to "king dork".

 

Tried this out. It feels very weird. Not to mention, the running animation is pretty terrible, and sometimes the legs are completely synced up - meaning it looks like Sonic's doing a series of very small hops very quickly. And there's no "standing" animation when you're not moving - he's always in that "running" pose.

Still running around the hills surrounding the Bay world as Sonic is pretty fun. Makes me wonder what a Sonic game where you do nothing but explore a giant world would be like. It'd have to be a bit more interesting than the featureless hills in TM's OOB areas, granted, but it's pretty fun to run around there...

Also, if you want an accurate depiction of Sonic's controls in recent titles, use this guy as your car in Coast :P

 

I don't think it's possible to do a better running animation or make a "standing" pose in Trackmania. Is it?

 

Well, despite the already mentioned limitations of this model, I think it's rather well done; at full speed, it really does feel a lot like Sonic with racing controls. I'd rather Sonic's face was modeled rather than painted on, though - in the vehicle select screen, the edges look kinda blocky, especially the ears.

 

Could I get that WAV/MUX file? =P Seriously, that would be funny. At the minute, my horn is "UNLESS IT'S A FARM" courtesy of the TF2 Soldier >.>;
