Sonic 1 and 2 getting the Sonic CD treatment by Taxman and Stealth

I had a feeling the ball was in due to taxman's hint a few pages back, but for all of this stuff to be featured?!

 

Damn, these smooth rotating special stages are kicking my ass. Not that that's anything new. They look so nice though!

 

Wow, the beta stuff is incredible.

I think I'll be picking this up for my Nexus 7. Still hoping for an XBLA version too.

 

How do you unlock the beta content? I already have the game downloaded.

Do I have to beat the game with all emeralds?

S3 items is good fun, all the normal shield boxes change to new S3 types, helps replaying the game for the 1000th time :P

So much win hidden away by a cheat, I hope sega allows them to add in an option for s3 mode, hell I'd love to see some kind of add-on tech to enable a S3 mode by owning another title.

 

How do you unlock it?

 

I'm stumped as to how to activate debug mode. I put in the code just fine, the ring chimes, but I don't know how to get it to work once I actually get into the level.

 

I feel really miffed right now that the only device I could possibly play it on (Android phone) is too ancient to run it. Hopefully I'll get it upgraded and be able to join in on all the fun.

Looking through all the videos and spoilers make me giddy in a way I can't recall other game releases doing so. + - Maybe it would have been even more wondrous had I found them out on my own.   You guys put so much care into not just expressing your appreciation for this game's history, but in the entire history of the classic Mega Drive games. This is the kind of standard all faithful "remasters" (sorry, I don't exactly know the right word to use here) of classic games should hold themselves to. Thank you Taxman and co., soon enough I'll be able to buy a version of this I can play for myself and enjoy in a kidlike trance.

Is that a grid-based cursor I see? That kind of aid in precise object placement makes me dream for a level editor built into official Sonic releases.

+ - Oh yeah, "Wow! Prototype special stage icons in debug mode!" Strange how that wasn't the first reaction I had.

These beta easter eggs was certainly something I never expected to see.

Overall this port is amazing, perhaps my most favorite version of Sonic 1. I've already beaten it, got all emeralds and got all three characters. However I can't seem to access the Level Select at all from my tablet. I did the tapping the "SEGA" letters in the correct order, got the ring sound and touched the title screen with two separate fingers like what Guess Who said in the video. But I still keep starting the game like normal (GHZ1).

Is there something I'm doing wrong?

 

Mistergambit, just to be sure, you're doing No Save mode right? I can only get it to work there just in case that's your issue

 

Yeah, I'm not even getting the ring sound from tapping the letters. I must be messin' it up somehow. I can't believe how awesome this port is. So much fan service... thank you!
