Haha, no hurry, just good to have backed up somewhere. I'm doing it for all other artwork for those books
Not necessarily ART to restore.. but something that I'd be keen on seeing one day is new scans of Game Player's Sonic X-Treme developer diaries. This stuff has been online for a long while... which means the scans are basically dirt by todays standards. Things like the 3D Nack and Metal Sonic stuff would be so nice scanned at 300/600dpi.
It'll turn up at some stage - a lot of Game Players issues were scanned in the last couple of years: https://retrocdn.net/Category:Game_Players_scans https://retrocdn.net/Category:Ultra_Game_Players_scans What's less certain are UK Sega mags from the early 90s, and there's lots of juice in those.
Holy shit. I remember I wrecked mine as a kid with felt-tip pen and tipp-ex! Anyone got a time machine I can slap that young'un and bring a preserved parchment. :v:/> Good luck un-colouring that Chemical Plant, that's some top-notch colouring to undo.
Something that popped up recently on Tumblr. Which means that the Sonic The FIghters are that appeared on Sonic Wrecks (http://sonicwrecks.tumblr.com/post/95580761847/sonic-the-fighters-official-art-we-actually-got) can get the original file sizes. I've added them to Sonicretro. ie; http://info.sonicretro.org/File:Stf_sonic_02.png They're huge!
gasp Thank you for making this forum post, especially considering how long it must have taken! We need more restoration like this, at least in my own opinion.
That's amazingly huge. In fact, seeing so much 'detail' (I know, you could cut your hand open on those clean polys!), I've noticed a rogue bit of 'something' to the left of Sonic's nose, like a white block of rogue polygon just hovering by his head. I wonder what that could be?

I don't think I've ever seen that stance of classic sonic before? Is that official? That hedgehog ecology thing.
Niiiice! I have to wonder though, what is the pink animal between Ricky (squirrel) and the raccoon? Half of it can be seen in higher resolution here on big_smile's site.
Those model sheets are a really great find; lots of stuff that hasn't been scanned before is in there. It's really surprising how a model sheet of Maria's pink dress from episode 38 edged in there as well. Going back to Sonic X again, I'm sure there's even more art stuff from the show out there that other people probably own and could possibly preserve. Sure, places like the Sonic Wikia have a lot of artwork uploaded, but it's only scratching the surface. It doesn't even begin to touch upon stuff like storyboards, scripts, genga, etc. Hell, there's even an entire Style Guide book for the anime which contains four discs of infinitely sizable colored artwork (similar to the Sonic Art Assets DVD). Unfortunately the poster of that tweet only owns the third disc of the four, otherwise all the art from the guide could be uploaded here by now. So what I'm saying is: if anyone owns anything, let's take the effort of reaching out to those people and preserving the stuff. We could potentially create a huuuuge Sonic X art dump.
Wow, this is a great start already! A more appropriate name for these would be "genga" or "key animation frames," though because "concept art" is more fitting a title for something like character design/background sheets. I really wish I knew the right people to ask about this kind of stuff, but considering how the anime ended 10+ years ago, it's getting harder and harder with each year to find those lucky oldbies who still own/know something remotely cool or interesting about it. I figured that it's best to do it now or soon, before more oldbies become unable to contact and more cool things are lost.
Ok then ... i'll name them like that ... I have more 272 of these to upload... i'll do it as soon as I can...
The art director / chief key animator (Hisashi Eguchi) for Sonic CD's opening / ending animations was kind enough to share some concept art a while back and has now recently shared some more never before seen concept art. I already added the new artwork to the Wiki. Seeing this new concept art being posted was like an early birthday present to me. I've never felt so happy and excited. It's nice to finally see Amy's face lol. We never do get a clear look at her face in the ending animation because she's covering her face with her hands. It's also fantastic to see character sheets for Dr. Eggman! I love Sonic's facial expressions. They are so cute and the one with his teeth showing is my personal favorite. It's hilarious. It's nice to see the concept art for Sonic's running and super peel out animation as well. I really hope he continues to share even more concept art with us. I'm especially hoping to see some concept art for Metal Sonic. I'm so thankful and happy that this guy is nice and awesome enough to share this stuff with us! He also drew these two pictures with Sonic but I am not sure whether or not they are new or old. He said he drew them during a coffee break. I think they might be new drawings for Sonic because the style looks a little bit different. They look fantastic though and it makes me happy that he still enjoys drawing Sonic after all these years.
