The cover artworks were used for the DVD menus as well. Not that their resolution is much better, but still. I've uploaded all Japanese DVD menus here: https://imgur.com/a/pc358
I think I have posted in this thread before, but I am looking for a specific piece of Sonic art that was used as a birthday card in I want to say Portuguese. The kicker? It used "Hidden Palace Zone" from Sonic 2 as the background. Sonic was running towards Redz. The text was white and was located in the top center. I saw it on here in some old merchandise topic.
I've actually got a few of these but never got around to finishing the set. Should probably see if I can do that some day.
Yeah, that's pretty cool! Volumes 11-13 are missing, though. I do own DVD rips of all 13 volumes, but I thought I'd mention this. You gotta try!! I'm one of the Sonic X superfans and I've been recently trying to locate and preserve as much of it as possible (including finding hi-res promotional key art and hunting down related CD releases using money from my own pockets), but the older something is, the harder it is to find stuff of it these days. The show turns 15 years old in April, and I've never felt so old before in my life.
Unfortunately, no menus exist for volumes 11-13. Only the "Hi-Spec" DVD editions have them, and they only produced these for the first 10 volumes.
Um, what? They do exist. You just have to press Alt+T to navigate to the title menu once the episodes start playing (if you're playing the DVDs with MPC-HC).
Whoa, you're right. I didn't realize you could get to the menu in the original DVDs if you waited until the first episode started playing to press Alt + T. With the Hi-Spec editions, you could do it at any point, hence my confusion :v: I just uploaded the missing menus in case anyone wants them. Anyway, like you, I only have rips of the DVDs. Otherwise I'd scan the covers.
Speaking of Sonic X, I've noticed that the Sonic Wikia has these rather conspicuously hi-res photos of various character settei (animator's reference) from the show. Does anyone have any idea where they came from? Looking at the metadata tab of these photos, it seems they've been "processed By eBay with ImageMagick" which I can only assume means that these were taken from an eBay listing that somehow nobody noticed, or something. Spoiler There's also this sketch of Cosmo's sisters by Uekawa dated June 2004 (which is about when episodes 53-78 began production), which I could not find a source for either.
For those asking about scans and donating: https://www.patreon.com/segaretro I'm actually about to release ~50 never-scanned magazines/items (you can see the comics Jax donated to me a while back that recently got uploaded on Sega Retro that are part of that set :v in the next couple of weeks.
Double posting because I can: as an amuse bouche, have the Sonic Advance 2 official guidebook with new art on bosses/enemies/etc. : ?????????2 ???????? (SEGA??BOOK)
That's a great idea!! I'll be sure to spread this around where I can. Also, I found my answer about the Sonic X settei. They were being sold by Tracy Yardley on eBay. Whoever has them now is the happiest man in the world. Maybe these will get scanned and leaked someday, but I may need to wait super patiently before that happens. The Uekawa sketch of Cosmo's family is still a mystery, though.
It was me the bought those sketches, they're a lot though. Like a lot. I was under the impression most of the production stuff was scanned though. I can definitely do it, but it's going to take some time.
Then you are definitely the happiest man in the world. Congratulations. A lot of the settei was indeed scanned and has been up online for years, but there's also numerous stuff like Super Sonic, Molly, Metarex, and other character/location settei that could only seen on low-res Yahoo! Auctions photos that were never scanned before. Hell, none of the settei in Yardley's sample pics on that listing have ever been scanned to my knowledge. I would totally love nice and big scans of all that stuff and can wait as long as it's necessary. You are gonna warm the heart of an obsessive superfan like me. now we have to find someone who happens to own scripts/genga/storyboards all this stuff is super duper important
Wow, they could have not done a better job at making it look like someone shot a load all over the special stage maps.
Brilliant! I didn't know there was a Sega Retro Patreon. Looking forward to seeing the magazines. What are these comics?
So here's a fun one that I'd like to get you guy's help on. I own the Ladybird Coloring Book poster for Sonic. As far as I can tell this might have been the rarest of the Ladybird ones? I got them all as a kid. however, as the name implies, it was to be colored in. I colored in some of it. I've uploaded a very high res version of the poster here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bmIZFy430vhpnDxlIrJWr5abH-uMVbf3/view?usp=sharing Anyone out there got the sweet ability to un-color this thing? :P
