  1. Can think of two reasons. The first being nitpicking, the second no concept of a timeline. I personally feel like this project has come to a near standstill.

    Next thing you know it'll be Sonic 2 HD's 5th anniversary. :P

  3. Well the issue is that these people are working on this in their free time and have jobs and lives outside of this project. When they're able to, they produce impressive results. If they were being payed to work on this for 40+ hours a week then? Yeah, we'd have seen much more substantial results by now but that's not the reality.

How many times have you seen a company hire fans working on a fan project?

I can think of one significant instance. Granted, that was one person and not an entire group.

If you're talking about Taxman, his case is the exception, not the norm. There are mod developers that eventually get hired but that's not exactly the same as fan projects getting someone hired. They're more likely to C&D'd.

It's not an issue of what people choose to do in their free time. That honestly is up to them. Time frames have been hinted at so much that it's an ongoing joke now. An (admittedly terrible) analogy would be that one guy who keeps saying 'hey let's go hang out at the bar, my treat' every other week but never shows up then blames it on real life commitments.

A more relevant analogy might be that employee that tells his boss that he'll have that referral done by the end of the week, and it still isn't done the week after. If (and this is a big if) someone at Sega considered hiring these guys, the fact that they haven't kept to their own time frames would be a major point of contention.

I'm not criticizing here, just pointing out a fact.

Well, the quoted post I had -was- talking about stuff people do in their free time. :P An employee is contractually obligated to turn in a referral.

Yes but if hired, they would then be employees. So it's relevant in the context of what an employer sees in a potential employee. Would you hire the builder that told his friend he'd finish his garage in a week and still wasn't done the next week? Or would you hire the builder that told his friend he'd finish it in 7 days and did it 6?

My analogy was about a fan project. I was talking about fan projects. You then said a more relevant analogy would be one presented with regards to employment. You were talking about an employment scenario.

I never said you were wrong. I'm pointing out that we're talking about different things.

I didn't say you said I was wrong. And I said might be, it was a suggestion. I went on to offer clarification for my suggestion.
