Sonic Superstars: A New 2D Sonic Game (Fall 2023)

pyoro is a legit leaker who leaked Super Mario Bros. Wonder and the Super Mario RPG remake before they were announced, and he recently made this tweet

Game Informer stated that in the customization menus for Superstars there was a "prototype" option they couldn't pick, so I think pyoro's implying that this unused design for Sonic will be in the game as a skin.

 

That’s wild if it’s true, and I don’t think it’s too farfetched given Ohshima’s involvement. Makes me excited for other possibilities for customisation options.

I don't think this is intentional but if this is true it's uncanny how many similarities there are between this game and Overture.

We got "Sonic news". Not "Sonic Superstars", "Sonic news". Expect to see Assassin's Creed Mirage and "Sonic news". Hmmmmmmm

 

I'm inclined to agree with @Overlord, but I wouldn't put Sonic Frontiers' third update and/or the fabled Knuckles show news completely out of the question. It's probably just gonna be Superstars in all likelihood though.

 

If the prototype rabbit actually ends up in the game, I'm curious what the design will look like. I've never thought it really matches with Sonic's aesthetic in its final form, save for maybe Sonic 1. A bit too rubberhose, a bit too Mickey Mouse imo. If he's in, I hope they changed him up a little bit. Tbh I'm also wondering if we'll get a look at Trip's real face in this trailer, but they may just save that for the game.

He wasn’t. They just showed a cinematic for the new frontiers update.

They also showed a trailer for superstars that showed off the co-op. It’s still not super clear how that’ll work but we did see there’s an extensive customization
feature that can be used in battle mode

Frontiers update is in September. Superstars’ release is October 17th
