First news I have that there was another Dennis the Menace series... with bad animation and terrible opening.
Robby London said so, although I have no concrete source; I recall Sonic Stadium also talking about it.
Curtosy of Tongara from the Sega Retro wiki: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C2WU5xalYkk The Sonic X-treme E3 1996 demo. Marvel once again at its distinct lack of gameplay.
I still wonder what X-treme's level designs could have been like if they actually had the time to make a finished game.
I'm guessing they would have been awkward and cramped, going by the released level data files and tapes. Granted, these aren't final, but I would think they reflect the level design style they were going for. By the by, do we even have all the X-treme videos, assets and level files preserved somewhere?
After a lot of digging for a Robby London interview, I found this old GamesTM article (courtesy of the Wayback Machine). https://web.archive.org/web/20150114130241/http://www.gamestm.co.uk/uncategorised/from-pixels-to-primetime-the-making-of-mario-and-sonics-cartoon-careers/2/ https://web.archive.org/web/20180208161607/https://www.gamestm.co.uk/uncategorised/from-pixels-to-primetime-the-making-of-mario-and-sonics-cartoon-careers/3/ So the ABC Sonic the Hedgehog show was in development first. ABC didn't reject Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, they rejected the idea of Sonic the Hedgehog episodes being sold into syndication. Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog was the result of, essentially, a compromise. Just looked up that opening. Yikes!
Chris Senn's stuff should all be on the wiki, most of the rest is up there. But the community has to moderate these things - if something is missing off the wiki, someone needs to add it.
What about Chris Senn's non-Sonic stuff? I can't find the disassembled sprites for the Spinny & Spike snake and dog bosses anywhere, only the assembled versions which I put together back then...
I wasn't even aware Chris Senn had been posting non-Sonic stuff! Sounds like this should be on Sega Retro, but it isn't. There's a job for somebody.
Oh, wow! Cool topic. I'll be posting my Debug Findings here, such as some updates on what's new in sonic 2 newly discovered Betas, that's available to everyone.
Where on the wiki can I find the videos and level files? Because they're not on the main X-treme article or the individual level articles as far as I can tell. Edit: The Other levels article links to videos on Youtube and request that people "Upload original versions please". So I the original tape rips are nowhere on the wiki. Does anyone have them?
https://info.sonicretro.org/File:Sonic_2_EU_1994_Calendar_Badniks.jpg What's that Badnik in the upper centre? And the snail-like one with a Moto Bug colour scheme?
More things to upload I guess. I had a tough time following X-treme with all the modified releases and remakes. Our coverage is out of date.
Stock images are wonderful. In which I uncover a later prototype of Sonic 3, where Sonic and Tails now have their finalized sprites, but the numbers on the top left of the screen still have shading.
Ice Cap is also the wrong time of day, which is possible if you skip the act 1 boss in the final but I wonder if that's the case here or not.
Nicely spotted. Here's a trick: https://www.shutterstock.com/editorial/image-editorial/film-and-television-1617036a Shutterstock also have this image, but they've got their own watermarks on it. The good news? Their watermarks are in different places! https://info.sonicretro.org/File:Sonic3_MD_Development_ICZ_01.jpg Ding. You get a bit of a knock in quality, but this is what, a 320x224 image taken off a CRT, scanned from a physical photograph and stored as a JPEG online? It's good enough.
The score is so low, that it's possibly that the player cheated with debug mode activated. This was likely an internal demonstration; the actual date of this image bewilders me, but my instincts suspect October of 1993.
So I encountered both this time switch glitch and a trick in Sonic Adventure 2 that helps with finding a Lost Chao in the Cannon's Core. I uploaded a video showing this yesterday, cause I hadn't see this discussed anywhere.
